Snuggles somehow scratched his back foot and it was small and now he keeps picking at it and the sore is about the size of a dime. How can I stop him from touching/licking/biting his foot? I put neosporin ointment and he started licking it off. So, help here please??!!

Here's a pic of the foot that Snuggles keeps chewing on. Thanks!
Oh no! I'm sorry, but I don't know the answer to this! Hopefully someone will be on shortly to help you.
How long has his foot been hurt? It's taken how long to get to dime size? Also, is it on the pad of the foot or top?
I JUST saw your pic...that should help the rehabbers help you! Best wishes!

Top side (not pad of foot) is where 2 very tiny scratches started and now it's one huge spot cause he won't leave it alone. It's been a week getting to this size.

Have you tried any of this product that is sold at Chris's Squirrel & More (online)? http://www.squirrelsandmore.com/product/2026/yuk-anti-and-lick-gel.htm
You can put the reg neosporin on, then cover the sore up with self bandage wrap (medical tape) and then place some of the Yuk lick over the out side cover of the bandage?
You can try it with or with out the Yuk Lick - - - - -
It worked for my Chihuahua...

Baby may need a collar to keep him away from the injured part. Won't like that ONE bit.

How is he doing ? Do you have access to antibiotics ? My foot got infected last summer and I went through heck with it,( it's almost healed now ) my doctor said the foot is the hardest place to heal.I know we are on 2 legs and vertical where squirrels are 4 legs and horizontall, but still....

I use polysporin, vetriycn or sometimes just pure aloe vera. I have had several that are rear end paralyzed chew at their feet but luckily they stop and it heals.

The anti lick gel worked for us. We used it on baby Rocky when his sister wouldn't stop nursing on his little nubby. I had heard mixed reviews from others as to whether or not it would work...but it did for us. I would give it a try if nothing else. Like Rhapsody said...put the neo on first...then bandage....then put the yuk gel on. Best of luck.

That is what the vet said may have to happen. Can you give me an idea of how the squirrel eats and gets around with a collar? Will he have to be kept in a small cage where he can't climb and since they eat with their paws (mine can't stand on his back legs cause he is partially paralyzed from MBD)? Mine barely is able to hold his food to the ground with his front paws to eat so how will the collar affect him? Ugh....why in the heck do they just keep picking at a sore?
Search shish-ka-bob. Legomom has Christine, a precious squirrel that could not hold her own food to eat. Legomom and her DH made a food holder for Christine and it worked wonderfully for feeding her:D
As for the foot licking, chewing, try to dab some Betadine on the wound to reduce the possibility of infection, it will help dry the area also. If all else fails and you are in a squirrel friendly state, have your vet take a look at the leg and see what he/she thinks. An E-collar doesn't have to be too long, just long enough to keep the leg wound protected. Food and water shouldn't be too difficult or out of reach.:D
