Hi there,

So, today, I was going through some feathers (collected about 5 years back out of the yard from a domestic turkey) and Amelia fell in love with one of them. She was chewing on the center of the feather, the spine, if you will. I took it away from her because I was not sure it was good for her, but she is VERY upset with me right now. I know they can find them in the wild, so do you all think it would be ok for me to give her the feather back?

Thanks!

I wouldn't pick one up from the yard and give it to her because I would be concerned about any lingering lice or parasites but these are 5 years old! They are composed of keratin and a quick google tells me they are 91% protein, 1.3% fat and 7.9% water.

Hmm...I try to eat low carb...and I have 3 parrots...perhaps I should start eating their feathers. Kinda dry...

Well, I can't tell you how happy she will be to hear she can have her feather back. She was SO upset when I took it away but I wanted a few thoughts on whether it was ok before she ripped up the whole thing :)
