Okay..maybe I am being paranoid due to some strange sudden deaths here, but Sammy is acting a little strange today. Generally I get his blocks ready and go let him out of his cage as soon as I get up. When I do this he goes totally crazy racing around for 20 - 30 minutes then settles in to eat his blocks while hubby eats his breakfast at the table next to his cage. Today he was sluggish and came out, but was not his usual rambunctious self at all. He just wanted to be up high on the window trim. Now usually I have to fight him back into his cage yet today he went willingly and is now back in his box asleep. Should I worry? He has been eating a good variety of fruits and veggies as well as his HHBs and getting outdoors for daily sunshine (much to his disgust as he is not the outdoorsy type and it is chilly here in CT). Any advice?:dono

When I said "strange sudden deaths here", I meant here on the board not here in my life.

LOL!!!
that would certainly be of interest to the authorities!

Okee
can you refresh our memories on how old Sammy is? A grey squirrel I assume?
a little history would be helpful to
Is he compromised neurologically?
Any change in out put.urine or poop?
Can you put your ear to his chest and listen to breathing.
Is his bedding dry?
I ask this because if they have seizures they spontaneously urinate in their bedding.
any new foods?
What did he actually consume in the last 24-48hrs?

Okay I am paranoid. Thank-you for the responses! When I arrived home from midday errands, the same old 4 month old demonic gray squirrel I have come to know and love was waiting in his cage, outside of his box ready to pounce all over my head to complain about being left alone for too long. I guess he had some instinct about the impending snow and was sleeping in like my outdoor crew. His diet is very varied and does include plenty of HHBs, sweet potato, green beans, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, squash, watermelon etc. and not too many nuts and seeds. You guys are too cool as a support system! Thank-you again!:thankyou :thankyou

nahhh...you're not paranoid...just observant!
My guys activity levels and times they wake up to eat vary from day to day. It could be weather related as well. Baby Jude wakes up anywhere between 5 am and 10 am....I guess with him it just depends on how late he was up watching Animal Planet. LOL

Thats awesome that he's okay. Your probably right about the impending snow. I've noticed many times with my two girls that when it is colder than usual in the room they will sleep in or take more naps throughout the day.

I completely understand this feeling. My little Amelia is just over 4 months old and if she's not on her usual schedule I am watching her like a hawk wondering if she's ok and second guessing everything I have done.... sometimes she will even be weird a day and I will be terrified and the next day, completely normal crazy flying squirrel.

I guess we people have various moods and energy levels, they can too... but I will probably keep being paranoid.

It's very hard not to be paranoid when so many things can happen so unexpectedly. He is so rigid about his schedule that it was freaky. He is ALWAYS up by the time I get to his cage. He's usually ticked off f I stop to make hubby's coffee first...lol I am so relieved to have all of you experts! When he is ready to go be a wild boy I may have to live here for the understanding that I know I will need. I just don't know if he will be a wild guy. He seem small and really isn't at all interested in the great outdoors. Maybe I should not be over wintering him, but I selfishly just couldn't pass him to someone else and he wasn't ready to go when it got cold. He is happy and healthy and I will definitely do what is best for him, but it ain't gonna be easy!
