This evening while the boys were out they started getting into tiffs..It seems that Scottie and Adam were at it and Scottie ended up wounded..I don't think it was a bite but a tear caused by Adam's back nail...

He is bleeding ALOT and the wound is open...I'm pretty sure it will need stitches..I've put antibiotic ointment on it and on the gauze..I then wrapped it with the self stick bandage...He managed to get the first one off, so I just put an new one on...the bleeding has not slowed down any...

I have him isolated in his own cage and will watch him all night....My only problem is that I don't have the money for the vet...and just to walk in the door is $38.00....If he needs a couple of stitches, we're talking anastesia and a bill up in the $100's....I just don't know what to do....I am very upset and worried about him....

If the wound isn't deep, you can probably clean the wound out real good and then use the liquid bandage on it (make sure you get a no sting type).

if you can get your hands on "Manuka Honey," a pharmaceutical-grade honey from New Zealand, it will act as an occlusive, antiseptic dressing. and, it heals open wounds in less than a week. I've used in on my dwarf hamsters, who are notorious for having sensitivities to all kinds of medications. it works like a charm! safe and incredibly effective... no scabbing, just right to pink skin with zero infection.

I bought mine for $25 at Whole Foods.

Thanks for everyones reply....I slept in late today, I was exhausted after what happened..

Scottie is doing fine now...After 2 bandage wraps, I decided to use a bandaid and do a butterfly...then I rewrapped him and secured the bandage with a bandaid...

The wound was pretty deep...without the bandage it was dripping like a leaky faucet...

I took all the bandages off earlier this morning and found the bleeding had stopped...:wott the wound was still open although the corners were fusing back together....As of right now, it barely looks like he has a wound at all...

I am keeping him isolated until the wound closes up..He is anxious to get back to his brothers, but not at this moment...

I will need to get that surgical glue and more first aid bandages at some point....thanks again guys...

You can use crazy glue to close a tear, but it stings, so watch out! I've used it on myself. I carry it with me in the woods just in case I get a wound that might need stitching. There is also a clotting powder that you can get that is as old as WWII.

I've heard about crazy glue..I'd be worried that I would glue my finger to his skin...:D

I will update the rat pack thread on what's been going on.....

We have domestics and I keep a bottle of crazy glue in my med kit for fixing wounds and ears.
It is a lifesaver! :thumbsup
Some types of clotting powder sting like mad too...so as long as the wound is healing...I would hold off applying that! Although they do have clotting powder with benzocaine...but again...I wouldn't apply it on anything but the most superficial cuts.
