Talula wants a piece. A small slice. She loves to also eat just the white part of the peel. I am not sure about the overload of vit. C. I do know the white part of the peel is good for people to help build the ammune system to fight off cold and such. How about for a squirrel?

My girl loves them I give her some and she's fine. I haven't given her the peel just the slices I remove the seeds.

Thanks. I really do not know if the peel is dangerous but she loves them. Packs them around. She really does not like the meat part of the orange. Just the peel part. She does however love tangerines. And my town has orange and tangerine tree's everywhere.

My squirrel also likes tangerines and oranges too. I've never given the peel though. I don't think there's much danger of vit c overload from a natural source like that unless fed a steady diet of it.

All three of the "kids" love them, sometimes I peel them and sometimes not, all three don't mess with the peels.

I was taught that citrus fruits enable their bodies to metaboloze calcium even better, so tangerines are :thumbsup:thumbsup. My problem is that my squirrels never want to touch anything citrus; could be that they are northeastern squirrels who would never see an orange or grapefruit in 'the wild'. :dono

I live in Indiana, so no wild ones would see citrus also, all three of the "kids" came from here and they do love them. They also love the snow pea's, but only the ones that come 12 to 24 a package at 2.00 a package :dono I guess only the best for the "kids" :D

Mine like citrus, even limes. I recently bought some clementine oranges, which I dearly love, only to have my Dr. call the next day saying that my potassium was sky high and that citrus was off limits for now:nono .
I give my babies the segments. I have one baby who is housed with two others and when I put their bowl of food in, she will bypass the sugar snap peas and everything else and go for the orange segments, one right after the other. For the others to get some and her not to get it all, I will have to hold these out and give them as a treat on their own!

Sammy has never been interested in citrus so imagine my surprise when he carted this one through the house. It is almost as heavy as him!:jump

I'm about to offer Maruska some clementines and cucumber for her overnight snack. I hope she likes them! Last night I offered her a cucumber and she would gnaw on it and wander off then come back to it so I thought she wasn't that into it, but this morning I woke up and all but one piece of the cucumber was gone. Hopefully she ate it. :rotfl

Haha the pic is great, but the image in my head was even better! Did he carry it in his mouth or roll it around or a little of both?

I had to post this picture. I have one squirrel who is a very picky eater. I gave them some small cucumbers recently; not the regular cucumber and not pickling cucumbers, just smaller cucumbers. Anyhow, when I checked his food bowl to see what he ate (and didn't eat!), I found out that he liked these smaller cucumbers - at least the fleshy part! For some reason I just find this picture funny. Now when I give them this cucumber, I cut it differently so he can eat the fleshy part more easily.

Give her a small piece and what she thinks of it - but do not give her large amounts of it at one time, as citrus can often cause loose stool or even painful diarrhea when given in large amounts to small animals.
