Okay...I think I may be being paranoid, but Sammy (14 - 15 week old gray sq) is acting perfectly normal but seems to have lost some weight. He is eating blocks and a good variety of veggies ad fruits and a couple of nuts as treats. He picks at the block and doesn't seem to really consume 100%. Should we be concerned? He is over wintering in the house with limited outdoor cage time. He doesn't seem to like being out in the cold and my outdoor sqs pester him until he just hides in his house shaking. Spring will be soon enough as long as being inside is okay for him.

Can you post a picture of him? Perhaps the outdoor ones are getting their winter coats thus making Sammy appear smaller...:dono :thinking Is his appetite the same? Glad he is overwintered indoors...he is still young to be out in this cold.....

He is MUCH smaller than the outdoor "coat wearing" sqs he just seems a bit lighter than he was a week ago. Pics wouldn't really show what I am talking about. Thanks for the quick response! He still looks pretty much like the pic attached.

So cute! His activity level may just be burning off his weight. Can you get him to sit on a scale long enough to track this and see if it is a trend?

Does he really look like he should? He is a lot more active actually. Racing around wrecking the house...lol I am so new to this and I have totally fallen in love with hi ad want him to be happy and healthy. Is there anything that I should give him for weight gain?

Just did a little resizing....he looks so handsome!!! And I think he is smiling too!!!
Do you have a vet that would do a fecal test, just to be on the safe side?

Avocado will help chunk him up. If you stored any acorns this fall, they tend to fatten them up, too.

Thanks for the resize.can you do it for my waistline? I don't think I do have a vet that will have anything to do with a sq. : ( I have to work on that for future. I do have a friend that is a lic rehabber for birds and she may also do small animals. I will ask her. If I told my vet it was for a pet rat would they know I was fibbing? I do have a vet that I have used for 30+ years but they are sort of "by the book".

Do that for your waistline....:rotfl :rotfl
I have heard of vets sometimes doing it if they think it is a rat, and that it has had a bad experience going to the vets...now whose rat can we say this is? Perhaps your nephew's who came from out of town along with his pet rat? And it is the same nephew that thinks his rat could be loosing a little bit of weight...OR you have always wanted a rat...your friend has one that she is selling, and before you get it you want a fecal done...:dono
Ok I'll keep thinking...:rotfl

Oddly enough my niece and nephew have pet rats...lol Maybe I can even provide the rat on scene with the "sample" in a ziplock!

Just cleaned out Sammy house and found: a zip drive, 3 pieces of mail, 2 computer keys (alt and L if you wondered) not to mention a box or 2 worth of kleenex and probably a roll of paper towels. I guess the term "squirrel it away" is a truism! I also caught him with hubby's eyeglasses trying to get them into the nesting box but fortunately sideways so they didn't fit through the hole. He is a klepto!

Why am I missing all of these posts...:dono :dono :rotfl
That would have been a picture, Sammy trying to get hubby's glasses into the nest box...I suppose it would have been too much to ask...Sammy can you wait a minute, I'd like to get the camera...:rotfl Wonder what shape the glasses would be in....:thinking :Love_Icon

I once found a laundry bag, a pair of dirty undies, and Jay's best tie in Henry's nestbox.:D

I needed a video camera yesterday when he snatched hubby's bluetooth earpiece and tried to take off with it. Hubby tried to grab it and got squawked at and there was a hilarious chase/juggling scene. He is truly obsessed with electronics. My laptop is missing 5 keys due to my not paying attention for 30 seconds. ...and still I love the daylights out of him!
