My little mousie, Koko got grabbed by a cat we dont normally keep in the house. Don't ask. I dont see any bite marks but her back side was wet and Im sure there has to be at the very least a scratch from the cats teeth. A death sentence if saliva got into it. She is moving around well and the cat didnt have her long, maybe a couple seconds but thats all it takes. She is sneezing periodically....
What can I give her? I have baytril and vibramycin for my ratties, and clavamox for my cat...
She is such a sweet little mousie....advice and some prayers please?
Thank you
Kristal

I would get him on the Baytril ASAP, especially since you have some!

baytril, definitely! She'll only need a tiny drip since mice are so small. It's better to be safe than sorry. Usually they are fine for a day or two and then without antibiotics they start to swell up and it is almost always fatal if you don't treat it until the swelling starts. At least that has always been my experience with baby bunnies. Good luck, I hope the little tyke is OK.
About the cat... I'd keep him inside and away from your animals, that way he can't hurt any animals. If you let him back out, he is killing TONS of mice and baby birds, bunnies, and maybe even some squirrels. Cats are very bad for wildlife!

Thank you sooo much C_M and SRB2!! I have been so worried about her all night. I do have the Baytril and PLENTY of it. My vet gave me some to keep on hand for my rattie girls.
What would be the best way to get it in her? I have 4 mice, and she is the smallest...very itty bitty. I am a diabetic so I have 1/2cc syringes....could I go get her some wax or mealie worms and inject it with a drop?
As for the cat....I always keep my cats indoors when I can, but this is a garage cat for now. My grandparents live with me and they are very feeble, and stumble and fall sometimes. This cat is very rambunctious, so I cant let her in the house to stay. Only for daily visits to play with my housecat, Soxbox when they go to bed. Don't need gma or gpa falling and breaking a hip because of a crazy cat!
But....little kitty, is a huge SNEAK and is always getting in without someone noticing. This is what happened last night. We had no idea she was in and my youngest went to play with Koko...she is his.
I will get her started on the Baytril ASAP. Just as soon as I get my kiddos to
school I will head to Petco for the worms.
Thanks again, I hope she heals up....she is definitely not herself this morning.
sg...if she's already showing signs of being unwell i wouldn't wait for anything ... not even getting worms....
i'd just medicate the mouse asap.... if you can get help for someone to hold her ... and you can insert the syringe in her mouth ....sideways not pointing to the back so she doesn't choke....
(at least thats what we do with rabbits so they don't choke...)
i'm very worried about her.....
i don't think you mind but i'd like to start a new thread asap because you need the dosage of baytril for a mouse...
i'm thinking maybe if you have a weight on her compared to your rats.... then maybe she'd be ? 1/4 dosage???

Nah, I didn't want to waste time either so I ditched the worm idea for the time being. I took one of my syringes (1/2 cc) and got a small drop and put it on the tip of her nose. Of course she had to wash THAT yucky stuff off, hehe, so I know she got it in her system.
She has been resting in my hand...sleeping a bit and then roaming around a bit. She's been getting lots of lovies, which she seems to be enjoying quite a bit.
I just put her back in with her buddies and she's bebopping around in there with them and running in her wheel, which is her favorite thing to do. I even saw her go get something to snack on and get a drink as well. I was worried about her not feeling like eating which was another reason I decided not to make the worm run to Petco. She is acting alot better.
I'm thinking....the rat dosage is for twice a day....so I'll give her another drop this evening?
Wow, she's running that wheel into oblivion....
Keeping fingers, arms, legs, toes, eyes and anything else crossable, crossed!
Thank you for your help and concern and replies....it really does mean alot to me :thankyou :Love_Icon :Love_Icon :Love_Icon
Oh, and her weight just now is .8 oz. She's HUGE

I just relayed to GS1 that I think possibly PM Pappy. She may be able to help with dosage amounts.
I will keep your sweet baby in my prayers SG. I am glad to hear she is wheeling it:thumbsup
this is from the RAT chart .... I hope someone can give you the correct dosage... too little is as dangerous as too much....
i'm so glad that you got some into her....:thumbsup
do you belong to a rat/mouse forum....

ENROFLOXACIN
BRAND: BAYTRIL 2.27%
CIPROFLOXACIN
(human equivalent) 5mg/lb BID, PO
.20cc/lb for 14 to 30 days
(INCREASED 4 TIMES)
2.5 to 5mg/lb BID, PO Bactericidal, broad-spectrum antibiotic once touted as being the miracle drug for mycoplasma, but we've found that using the recommended dose, symptoms return very soon after ending treatment (although some rat owners report having excellent results). Better results have been achieved using much higher doses (as shown). Use in combination with Doxycycline for best results. Injectable form tastes horrible and must be mixed with something to make it palatable. Can also be nebulized. Relatively expensive. Prescription needed.
NOTE: Baytril shouldn't be used in rats under 3 months of age.

Thank you gs1 for all of your help :) . I do frequent that particular site and I did read that chart last night...I was just so afraid to try and calculate dosages for her. But upon observing her behavior this morning I decided better something than nothing. So I said a(nother) prayer and gave her the Baytril.
I have a call in to my vet and he is awesome about getting back to me. So hopefully by this evening I will have a better idea about how much/often.
She's still acting like her busy little self right now. Since their metabolism is so fast I guess that means at least I didnt overdose her. Looking for positives, looking for positives.......:tilt

She is quite spunky, and quite spoiled......
It's been 24+ hours and 3 doses of Batril. I am cautiously optomistic :) .

What are the mgs per ml or is it a tab? Did you get in touch w/your vet? Do you still need a dosage?

Apparently, my vet had an emergency surgery so I didn't hear from him yesterday :(
Soooo....I've just been giving her the drop like yesterday morning. If you could help me with a more precise dosage, that would be wonderful!!!!
The Baytril I have is the liquid form 100mg/ml. Koko weighs .8 oz and I have 1/2 cc syringes. What I have been doing is drawing up a unit and pushing it all out and squeezing the last possible drop out onto her nose, which she cleans off. Best I could think of to do at the time.....
Unfortunately in order to do this I have to catch her in a good snooze. Otherwise she smells it and hides....."it's ICKY, Mom!"
Thinking I may go ahead and try the worm thing....she does have a good appetite, and maybe that would help to disguise the smell.

I am not great on dosage with something this tiny, so had to ask someone. This is what she sent me back:
mix 1 part baytril to 4 parts water makes baytril 20mg/ml for 22 gram mouse she would get .01

Thank you very, very much for all the help and prayers. Koko seems to be doing quite well.....she is her usual self, eating and drinking fine, and constantly running the wheel as fast as it will go. Thank you for getting me the dosage amount...I will feel alot better about it now. I did make it to Petco for waxworms and mealies today, so next dose gets snuck in ;).
Between the meeces and the ratties, we managed to work through a 50 count tub of waxworms.....eeeewwwwww :D
