I have never bought the Harlan blocks for my Bubby (gray sq) and want to try them but when I went to order the shipping was (I thought) really expensive. This was at the craftyrat site. Is this where everyone orders them or is there another source? I want to try them but I hate to spend so much and then he maybe not like them for some reason. He loves the HHB's and I keep those too but the mouse blocks he loved had the formula changed and he won't eat them anymore. It was the KM Animal Farm brand. He will begrudgingly eat Mazuri but it isn't a fav.
Thanks for any info......

Kathy, click on the section that says "Flat Rate Shipping" and check out the choices. You can mix and match types of block or get all the same, but the shipping price is great. I gust ordered 10 pounds that was and the shipping rate was really reasonable.

Please be wary of any products under the "LM Animal Farm" label. It is just a fancy name for HARTZ MOUNTAIN, which is another name for crap. Hartz's reputation had gotten SO bad in the past few years that they had to invent "LM Animal Farms" to get people to buy their junk.

OH! I didn't know that! The plain, classic blocks were what Bubs really loved but they changed it with more junk in the blocks, new packaging, etc. and disc. the classic. I bought them because the store nearest me carried them and again, Bubs loved 'em.
Thanks for the info though as I did not know. :thankyou

I was going to order 5 lbs flat rate so I guess the shipping seemed high for the smaller amount. I wouldn't mind paying $11 for a larger amount. If the Bubs will eat it that is. We know how picky they can be! :D

If Bubs doesn't like them you can use them in the BooBall recipe!
50 grams rodent block (crushed to a fine powder) I use two (25 grams each) , Kaytee Forti-diet and Harlan Teklad 2014 or 2018.
50 grams powdered Fox Valley squirrel formula
50 grams crushed pecans
Mix ingredients together.
Mix organic baby food fruit (100 grams) and 20 grams Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil together and warm for 20 seconds in the microwave. Add this wet mixture to your dry ingredients until well blended. It will seem very wet. (I use Earth's Best Organic Apples & Plums).
Put in the refrigerator for 5 hours (Overnight is even better). This lets it set up. It softens/moistens the rodent block and dissolves the FV.
Once you are ready to serve it take out about a 1/2 tsp (5 grams) of the mixture and roll is in your hands but not so much that it will melt the coconut oil. Give it to your squirrel. This recipe feeds two squirrels for about a week.

Also, Harlan Teklad now puts out a commercial diet called Native Earth . It is the same as their typical 2018 formula [confirmed this with a phone call to Harlan Teklad], containing 18% protein and 5% fat.
It can be bought from PetFoodDirect.com at a better price per pound, I believe than crafty rat etc. I caught it on sale for 75 cents a pound. The regular price is still only ~95 cents per pound.
You have to order a 40 lb bag, however, a TSB'er might want to order a bag and send 5 or 10 lb bags to others and save....

BTW, the price per lb I list above INCLUDES the shipping cost!! Really good deal.
