ok I have 4 baby mice three I think may be dead... the parents were squished by a log and I think the three were squished to. the other baby seems to be ok .. I tried to raise mice b4 and I lost them... but now I have you guys to give me new tips and pointers. I will let you know if they are alive or not I have them in a box on a blanket on a heating pad. Wht should I feed them ? and with what? They are lightly furred and there eyes are still shut. ty in advace.

I also have 7 baby pigeons that need my undevided attention. 3 of them are more bald then feathered aand the other four are all feathered except under their wings how old do you think thy are? and what should I feed them? The o0ne is in critical condition his head is picked bloody. what should I clean it with?

now lastly the eggs I have 17 pigeon eggs that are most likly fertile I have a still air incubator and will be going to get them this afternoon. DOes anyone know the proper temp?

I feel horrible for having to take the eggs and babies but its either that or they will be buried in corn (The babies and eggs are from in a corn silo from a local dairy farmer.) he needs to clean it out and fill it... The conditions are horrible in there its a floor of rotten corn (it looks like tar) and there is a layer of dead pigeons. I have no Idea why they would lay in those conditions.
I hope i put this in the right spot ty!

wouldn't an eyedropper work? i supposed esbillac would be good for them too. or a small syringe(without the needle of course)

That is what we do for baby mice we get in, feed them the same formula as the squirrels. You can hold the eggs up and put a piece of cardboard behind it, and with a flashlight see if there is anything in the eggs.

If the baby mice are pinkies (furless), feed them 1/4 to 1/2 cc every hour, and 3 times during the night. You should be able to see a milk line on their abdomen, you can use that as a guide in feeding. Remember to stimulate them to pee and poop at each feeding. If they have fur, you can feed them every 2-3 hours, and give leave some cut up grapes in their area. Oh yeah, they will need heat regardless of age.
Pigeons - I use Exact, mix as directed and feed with a tube. Place the tube in the back of their mouth down into their crop. Fill their crop 2-3 times a day. It should feel like a squishy water balloon when full. Do not use Nutrastart as it is rice base, Exact is corn based. Again, the featherless ones need heat.
As you can see, the mice, not the pigeons are going to be labor intensive. Pigeons are easy. The older ones should have seed available at all times, scatter it and they should peck. Give them water, in a bowl that will not tip over, they need to get their entire bill in to drink.

it gonna be a labor of love... He isnt a pinky thank goodness! I have him on a heating pad. A syringe will not work I tried that last time and their mouths are to small... so im gonna try to grind a needle down to a flat non sharp edge and try that? I had been feeding the pigeons baby pablum well I waited for a reply and thay take the syringe like thay were raised on it. The lil ones are not totally featherless I wish I had my camera to show you. I was told to use dampened chicken starter or dampened game bird starter wil this work?? I cannot find the other stuff I live in the middle of nowhere:shakehead. I know both starters are corn based. I have been giving them water. Thanks all keep the info comin!!!!

You can try with the ground down needle, it may work. If you can get him to like the esbilac, you may be able to get him to lap it. That you can mix with baby pablum.
Pigeons are hardy, you can try the soaked grains, but be sure to add some bird gravel, or they won't be able to digest it. Watch their stools carefully, they should not be runny, but well formed. And start scattering seed. If you become familiar with their anatomy, and get a feel for their crop, you will be able to feel it and know when they are pecking seed. They are very sneaky and will never let you see them peck seeds, always wanting to be handfed. If you catch them with a seed in their mouth, they will give a look that says" I have no idea how that got in there". :D

I have never raised pigons but I have raised loads of Cockatiels, Mockingbirds (have to take care of Mocking Birds since Harper Lee is a cousin), Jays, Robins, and Blue Martins. I always use Exact and a syringe. I simply grab the babies with my thumb and forefinger on either side of their little beaks and apply slight preasure until they open their mouths and insert the syringe. After about a week they end up opening their mouths themselves to be fed.

Timber, don't the jays and robins gape for food?

My sister raised 4 baby mice- She fed them Esbliac but she used a clean make-up applicator the sponge kind and they sucked on it. It worked well. Try it.

To make your life a little easier, Momma mice, any female really, can be bought at a pet store, and she will nurse it for you. They are great when it comes to that. Just make sure you get a older one. I work at a pet store, and I always put the pinkies and the fuzzers in with our breeders, so at least if we don't sell them for food:shakehead , (i will never get over that aspect of this job), they still will grow up, and not starve to death. They only cost a couple of bucks. Good luck. Darcy

oh yeah, and far as the birds,I use Exact too, like Timber said. Just make sure the syringe goes down the left side of the birds throat. Easiest way is to insert on right side of mouth, at a angle, down into the left. Pretty easy actually. But is a little nerve racking at first.

I have to dissagree with the momma mouse theory. Most mice will bite any baby that is not theirs. I tried this method before and a few babies got nipped pretty good. I did have one mother mouse who was ammazing and did take in other babies. the original mother had died. Ricky took them in as they were her own. I tried this with a few other females and they all bit the babies. you never know though, you might get lucky. you have to make sure that the female has a current batch and is lactating.

In the store I work at, It was always the males that bit. I never had any probs with the momma. I guess we have just be luckyx_biggrin . Thank goodness for the little ones sake.....at any note, I hope all is doing well there today.

I used to raise mice, and when someone brought me an orphaned wild mouse, I would put the baby in with the lactating mamas and they always raised them for me.
