I'm having a heck of a time here in Montreal finding all the proper ingredients to make healthy boo-balls for Hami. My lilttle guy is a fruit fancier - Scooter was a greens fancier. :thinking

Different personalities, different tastes I tell ya. The only greens Hami really likes are frozen green peas and sugar peas. He'll eat romaine if he's really hungry but given the choice between a peach or grapes (any fruit) and romaine he'll go for the fruit anytime. If he had his druthers he'd eat nothing but nuts and fruit.... and oh, yes... 16 grain bread. He won't eat broccoli and has to be totally desperate to eat spinach. :( He has a thing for high phosphorus foods like sweet potato (loves that, he gets it 3 to 5 times a week) and corn of course - which I give to him ONLY as a treat once every couple of weeks or so. The cranberries... well he loved those at 1st but ow he eats them only if the fancy strikes him.

Picky, Picky, picky!!!! :shakehead

Since I only have Hami it makes my life really complicated because the quantities shipped from the US are usually large ones. I have found this product here "Living World Extrusion" for hamsters and I wonder if that is ok... i.e. could I use that as a basis (instead of the Kay-tee or Harlan Teklad) to make Hami some boo-balls? :dono Lately Iève been giving him Chestnuts - since in the wild there are still some here and there for my outside guys. The ones I give him are store bought - to be sure they are clean and not mouldy.

Anyway, I finally fooled my little devil into eating yogurt at least by crushing 3 pecans and a walnut into a tablespoon of vanilla yogurt. How am I doing? Too many nuts in my ratio or is it fine? If need be I could gradually increase the yogurt portion and see how that goes.

Here is the link to check the nutrition content of the Living World Extrusion:

It would be great if I could get an answer ASAP since I'm getting low on HHB's and the last time it took more than 2 weeks to get here :frustratedx - with he X-mas mail it might take a month and might be quicker for me to drive to Florida and back, maybe even walk there duhhh :poke I know, I know... could be an excuse for me to leave the winter behind but don't even think of it ok?!!!! Besides... who'd take care of Hami while I'm gone? Hubby would have to wear a suit of armor :D since he never got close to him yet. :rotfl

Off th etop of my head I say okay for the time being
There is a thread that I posted that I am having trouble finding about comparing the ratblocks.
THese blocks for hamsters you are looking at have corn as number one ingredient....very high in starch, whole wheat and middlings round that out soy is protein...
i would use it in a pinch

what are you using for formula protein/fat ratio? FV 20/50 would be desirable.

For greens I take kale, chop it finely then squish the avocado into it.
they gobble it up.

My girls wouldnt even LOOK at Kaytee Forti-diet - The Extrusion is the only block they would consent to nibble on. When I got the Extrusion, I visually compared the ingredients, and if I recall correctly, they were very similar.

I like that: kale with avocado squished in. I think I'll try that for me.

My wild guys eat dandelion greens sometimes. Maybe these could be frozen like spinach for the winter.
