I got a little coconut for my guys thinking they would go crazy trying to get inside. They did, and then they got bored. It's too big for their little mouths. Should I poke a little hole to entice them and give them a tooth-hold? How is coconut for them, healthwise, and how long does it keep once air can get inside?

I think you may have to 'start' it for them. They love it, and it's good for them but too much will cause loose poops -- just warnin' ya. :D

Teddy (a flyer) rips the threads off & chews at the holes occasionally, but mostly he uses it to perch on while he eats. That's why he's the Coconut King! :)

Well, I poked a couple of holes in it, and they are already going at it. If there is anything left of it later I may get some pictures of them wrangling with the thing :)

I will be out of town this weekend so I won't break it for her until next weekend when I'm sure to be home to clean up the mess...LOL

I'm still trying to learn who is a chippy and who is a gray squirrel, so forgive my ignorance when I ask...is coconuts safe for gray squirrels? If they are, do I give shell and all to Hope or break it up for her?
Thanks in advance!!

:thumbsup It didn't take much coconut to cause diarrhea in Sammy. Only time he's ever been sick.

The coconut palm is grown throughout the tropics for decoration. Coconuts in Kerala are an essential part of the lifestyle of Kerala, it is a functional food, which provides health benefits over and beyond the basic nutrients. The coconut tree grows to a height of 25 meters.

Talula loves them. I just put it in the cage and let her go at it. It takes her about 4 hours and she is in.
