Had to take Snuggles back to vet this AM cause he got his foot caught in the wire on the cage and pulled his back leg. (1/2 inch wire cage walk so I guess that's not good?) Vet did xrays this time to see his skeletal structure. No sign of MBD now, so his paralysis/seizures that he had (about 8 weeks ago) and him still not being able to stand up on his back legs I guess has to do with his brain and the damage the MBD did? Does anyone have any idea how long it can take for him to get total back leg strenth back? He was paralyzed for 2 weeks, then got a UTI (was on antibiotics for 7 days), then started being inactive about a week after that round of antibiotics and was put on steroids/antibiotics and just finished those yesterday, now he is going to be on a pain killer like human ibuprohen for awhile. His only problem I see now is just getting him to stand up like a normal squirrel on those hind legs. The steroids did absolutely nothing for him that I can tell. He still falls to the left when he runs. Any ideas or suggestions cause the vet can't see anything wrong with him that would be causing the weak hind legs but he was completely normal before the paralysis and siezures. :thankyou

Sorry folks, I thought I posted this on Non Life Threatening and it's in wrong forum and I don't know how to delete it from here.

Are you still treating with additional calcium for the MBD? And is your squirrel also getting D and magnesium (using formula to provide this is good)? I hope so.

It can take a while to completely reverse itself - MBD is a marathon, not a sprint. He actually has to grow new bone, and he needs all of those things plus protein, which is also supplied by the formula, to do that - but it takes a while.

We have a member here named Gina who's squirrel has gone from paralyzed to healthy. Look her up in the members list and send her a PM - she can tell you how long it took to accomplish this.

Hi, I contacted Gina yesterday via PM and she hasn't responded yet...but no big hurry. He is still on formula but does get some moths, mealworms, vegies, and a snack of fruit/nut. He has been going all day long in his cage without a break except to drink the formula and eat veggies. Got his 30min of real sunlight too. Yesterday I put him in his cage and he pulled his leg 1st day back in it after steroids but so far today, no boo boo's. Going strong and I hope he keeps up the good work. He's a handful! I just hope he fully recovers and we still aren't sure is was MBD. Vet said take him off the added calcium after doing xrays yesterday. His bone structure is perfect. He was on added calcium as recommended on this forum for 8 weeks so... next step is getting him to like his Henry's Blocks. Hasn't happened after he ate 1. Ordered him some Picky Eaters and Rehab to Wild Release ones a couple of days ago to see if he will eat those. He won't even eat the ones I have now with peanut butter or applesause on them! Ugh. Likes his veggies, fruits, and nuts tho! lol Thanks for all your help!!:jump :jump
