Paco has been a patio squirrel since release a couple of weeks ago. Today she ran into/through a low to the ground container of antifreeze/other fluids that the neighbor had under his car working on it. He came and told me quickly that she at least gotten her feet in it.

I grabbed her right up. she was greasy under the belly and sides and smelled like car fluids. I immediately took her in the house and made a warm dawn dish soap solution and cleaned her up and rinsed well.

I knew she would be mad so I put on thick leather gloves ( I know, not tooth proof:shakehead) and she waited until the rinse portion to bite me through the gloves and as far as I can tell she bit through to China. Worst bite I have ever had and I have had some doozies.

She has been in the house on observation for the past two hours and is playing and drinking water and eating.

Anything else I should look for or do? I feel like I got it off rather quickly.

Her fur is puffy and bushy and she looks like a movie star. Thank God my neighbor told me. What a good guy.

Sometimes dogs and racoons drink antifreeze because it has a sweet taste. I do not think it is absorbed through the skin - at least not very quickly. The risk would be to leave it and then Paco eats it when he grooms himself. It sounds like there is no risk of that, now. You are a saint to endure all that angry biting, btw. Owies....

Kristal,
That is exactly what she was doing was grooming herself. I was freaking out in a hurry to get it off. Didn't even take the time to ask TSB. Just new Dawn removes oil from the duckies so I went at it. he had other fluids in their as well. it was red and green stuff.

Jackie,
So far she is fine and dandy and back outside for the night. She forgave me for that very tramatic thing I put her through and I forgave her for biting the blank out of me:thumbsup

Stosh,
I am so shocked you seem to hit the nail on the head every time. My brother in law runs a fishing dock and he is getting me kevlar gloves (spelling)? Their use is for fishing and avoiding shark teeth and such. They are getting them to me this coming weekend. I had a wild that I was helping get me too. That is when they would come in handy FOR SURE !!

Paco's skin was red at the time but is fine now. It scared me to death that she could absorb caustic material through the skin.

Sassy,
Thanks so much for rooting for my furball. I am thinking the neighbor would not have called. I just happened to be out there and he said she tried to stop while she was running but stepped right into the flat container. All of my releases are so happy to be out right now they just get very excited I guess.. My neighbors, most of them are very kind to my squirrels. It has taken some work to get their.
Thanks all, I pray she has no more issues from this. :wott
