So, here I was trying to do a good thing for Gizmo, our older vistior, the one we got because he had a leg injury..... Anyway, we built a release cage and well, he went in okay but when it came time to come in....he somehow, dont ask me how.....off he went :shakehead He seemed to enjoy/ be afraid of the outside at the same time! I'm soooo worried now :shakehead
I went for a walk, dozens of squirrels but....can't tell if that's Gizmo or not and he will not come, always was a little wild. He took food from my hand but no holding, touching, cuddles of any kind!
I have put his bed outside with food, water and his "fridge" were he burried his food but don't know if he can find his way back!? Weather is very mild still, 80 in day, low 60 at night, trees are full of leaves still so....Oh pray he will find a place to sleep or better yet...find his house! I put it near were he went under the fence :dono
As for Peanut, he seems okay, looking for him I think, wont stay in the basket they shared, so sad, I feel awful! I was so careful....guess not enough! I figured him to be about 16 weeks or more, he was very healthy, strong when I got him, but for his leg he looked great! He can crack a walnut, I have feed him wild food, apples, dandelion, nuts so he has had a variedy of foods!
Will he be okay? We live in a fairly quite area, not too many cars, lots of squirrels around, tons of live oka tree's......I know I wont sleep tonight!!!! Just this morning him and Peanut had a WWF champion wrestle match on my coffee table, they played so well together despide the age difference and now....lost Gizmo, lonley Peanut....what a bad Mom I am....:shakehead

Well, but maybe Gizmo was just ready to claim his freedom, running through the tree tops, finding out what its like to be able to go, go, go! Don't be sad. He'll come back if he needs you.

Supposedly eastern greys have excellent spatial memory compared to other squirrels. He can probably find his way home if he needs to. :)

At 16 weeks, he should do fine. That is the age I released my two (back in August, but I am in MA). Pinkie was just here today......and I went through 7 weeks without seeing her, so yes, they can find their way home (and Pinkie, although raised by me, was 'wild', so if she comes home, anyone can!!!) Try to stay positive, keep his fav treats close to your door in case you see him. He may just be out seeing what the big world is all about....then decide he likes it much better getting room service! :D But even if he doesn't, he is old enough to do it on his own.

Thank you all soooo much for your kind words :thankyou
I hope your all right, I hope he finds his way home or out there, whatever is best for him and boy.... he did run and fast! He always did like to jump all over and run as fast as he could so maybe.....I will keep his stuff out for him, always!!!:Love_Icon

Make sure to always put food out, in case he comes and you miss him. I have feeders everywhere and Pinkie knows to go to them. But if I see her and I go out and call her, she runs right to me (she knows momma has 'the good stuff'.....lol)

I did and will continue to put out food! I also put out his house, the one he no longer slept in.....him and Peanut shared a basket but I can't take it because than Peanut will be upset! As it is he is looking around for his buddy to wrestle with :shakehead as if I could feel any worse :osnap
How long will he miss him? He came out as always this morning to eat with me, I have to put his food in my mouth before he eats, yeah he is not spoiled! Anyway, after that he goes back to play with Gizmo, so today he just stood outside his cage door listing and ....no sounds! He just stood there, wouldn't go in! Oh I feel just awful, I will spent extra time this morning with my baby, wont go to the GYM, I go daily so one day will be ok! I will be wrestling with Peanut :Love_Icon :)
As for Gizmo, he wouldn't come to me even if he saw me. Since we got him late, due a injury, he never got too tame. He would take food out of my hand, play but from afar, he'd bounce on my hand, do flips and in general make a clown of himself but no touchy, feely stuff :nono or all bets were off! This was after about 2 months so...... don't think he'd come even if he could see it was me! Will however place food all around our yard and make a few boxes for him or any other squirrels that need a home!
