Officially freaking out :( I was picking up his cage a little before bed and picked this up.. Hoping maybe it's just the acorns but looks a lot like blood? It smelled strongly of pee but to make sure I went back and did some old school stimulating ( he was none too happy about this) and the second picture is what came out :(

It's hard for me to tell if he was just protesting being held like a baby/stimulated or if it was hurting him but he was giving little cries/squeals while I was stimulating - he's not usually a very verbal baby :(

Any input? IS this acorn pee? If not, I have cranberry capsules, i believe they are liquid or gel - for myself, can he have these watered down? I dont know how Im going to sleep :(

Looks like acorn pee to me. When did you first notice it?

Sunday or Monday I think, thats when I saw what I thought was blood on his pillow case - which is odd because he never pees on his blankets now that he's in his big cage :/

And he's been getting acorns now for a week or two - maybe even 3? does it take awhile for the color to show in pee?

He may have peed in his bedding but it was not noticeable before. Mine do it now and then.
I would go ahead and get some cranberry juice for him anyway. Before you try anything stop feeding acorns and clean out his stashes.
Cut out the acorns for awhile and see what happens.

Shouldn't have any stash, his stuff gets dumped out/cleaned out every day when I take him out to the yard for outside time in his cage :) Poor baby..cant even hide food in his room.

I will cut out the acorns starting tomorrow and get him on some cranberry juice ASAP.. he's not going to be tickled about syringe drinking either LOL He made it VERY clear to me when he was done weaning, spent more time biting my fingers and trying to use my body as a playground than nursing :)

This might be a Xanax take me away night.. I feel so bad thinking he might have a terrible UTI I don't think I would be able to sleep :( Poor baby snugglebutt

I agree - stop the acorns for a while and see what happens. As far as cranberry juice, it's worth a try. Cranberries are in the supermarkets now, and mine all like them. Something to think about if he pitches too much fuss about the syringe. And don't forget - cramberries do very well in the freezer. That way you can give them to him all year long, which should help guard against a UTI.

I would wait on the cranberries. They may discolor the urine. Right now she needs to clear him up and see if the acorns are what's doing it. I should think that it would clear up by tomorrow night or the next day.. Depends on how much has built up! :D

Maybe I can baby talk him into taking some formula to help flush it out faster.. He drinks a decent amount from his water bottle, but I'm going to flush those kidneys :)

Place bets on how many holes I have in my fingers by tomorrow night?

I'm going to say zero because you don't need to do anything extra unless he is truly sick....He's FINE!!!

Hmm... just for once you could try giving him something salty to make him more thirsty, but mugzeema is pretty experienced, so I would trust her ;)

Oh, hon, I would bet my last dollar that is acorn pee. My wilds are gorging on them now - eating mostly acorns and my deck looks like a murder scene. When they eat nothing but it gets much darker than that...I have what looks like deep red blood spatters all over my porch swing cushions (and no, it DOESN'T wash out - grrrr). Acorn pee. Yep.

Starting to feel less like a horrible squammy :) wheww

Cutting out acorns today And im going to see if I can get him.to drink some formula for me just for extra fluid :) and hope for no more scary pee soon! I laid in bed wide awake until 4am thinking about him

Acorns won't hurt him - the tannins just color the pee. We get these posts every year at acorn time.

I am 99% sure this is acorn pee as mine have been happily munching on them for weeks now and leaving pink/rusty spots all over the white tile floor. :shakehead (Never think that only boy squirrels pee out of the cage. ) I would not deprive him of the acorns; they are an excellent, natural food.

The only reason I told her to stop the acorns was to show that it was the acorns that caused the discoloration in his urine...Once she sees that then there is no reason for concern on her part...seeing is believing

He wont go hungry I promise :) going to get him a bag of shelled pecans/walnuts etc for noms :) as soon as I see non terrifying pee he will get them.again :)

Gives me time to float test his winter store of acorns - can I still do that if they've already been frozen?

My guys are peeing dark brownish red urine - on my nice white window sills, too! We have TONS of acorns around here. They have eaten so many they are sick and tired of them. If he had not been eating acorns, I would worry.

Old fashioned stimulating, hmmm. You are confusing your little man.:D
