I found this mouse on my way home from school. He was on the bridge, and I don't think he looks very old. his eyes are open though. The bridge was no place for him, (i almost stepped on him!) But now i'm panicking. He looks like Timothy, only smaller. I Need Help! I ALso don't know how long I can care for him. WHAT DO I DO!

Sorry for the typos, i'm in a hurry.

Looks like a little deermouse. Do you have any formula? You can offer him oats (old fashioned, not the quick ones), small bird seed, greens, rodent block, cheerios (a treat), avocado (another treat). He is very young, but very close to weaning age, as well. I would get him on heat, just in case he is ill (under half). I'd take him if I were closer. Don't know if Katherine is close to you or not. I will email her and see if she can help.

He has a hot water bottle in the bottom of his box. I don't have any formula. What kind? OMG! I just had a very close call with our cats. My little sister is keeping them away now. I've given him some lettuce and oats. he started eating right away. Do you think he may be dehydrated? How do you make the pedialyte stuff again? I remember having to give that to Timothy. I need to get back to him. I have a half day in school tomorrow, luckily. If there is anyone around that can take him, that would be useful. I really don't know if I'm equipped to do this at the moment, but I'll do my best. I do NOT want him to end up like Timothy!

1 tsp salt (teaspoon)
3 Tbsp sugar (tablespoon)
1 quart warm water

Keep refrigerated.
Do you have a syringe? I never raised a mouse, but I heard to go very very very slow with feeding...First can you put it in a tiny container...very shallow...just to see if he can lap it up on his own...
Maybe try putting about a teaspoon size on a paper plate and show him the water tap it, and see if he will take it that way...:dono

The twins have named him (or her) Lani.

I bet he's weaned already. Mine weaned himself within a few days of opening his eyes. Homemade pedialyte:

1 teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 quart water

I've made Lani some. He didn't seem interested in lapping it up though. Is that good or bad? He is very active.

Not sure, have you tried any with a syringe? Just a drop or two...:)

:thankyou everyone who has helped so far.
Advice needed.
1. How long will he need care, how much, and should I try to do it myself? I've still got school, but luckily only have half a day of school tomorrow.
2. right now he is in a cardboard box. I assume this won't work well for long. Should I try to convince my father to get a better container, maybe a terrarium or something?
3. I have wanted a rodent for so long, and am so tempted to try to keep him. I just can't see how i would release him, since he is a mouse so I wouldn't be sure where a safe place would be.

Suggestions Please!

Go to any drug store, and tell the pharmacist what you have, and see if they will give/sell you a 1 cc syringe with no needle.

Youre gonna want to get Lani out of that cardboard box or he/she is gonna chew a hole in it.

Got one! How do I hold him while feeding him? I'm afraid of him aspirating, or something. he is so small!

Oh, and I found a wooden box that seems big enough. He'll be in there for the night.

Scroll down to post 59 for pics. Make a mouse burrito.

He may be too old to nurse; I would offer him some broken cheerios, a little bit of seed, maybe a bit of lettuce or an apple wedge, my little guy is NUTS for sliced almonds - mice eat all sorts of things.

Get a soda bottle cap and put some in there, he should be able to lap from it. A small piece of apple, some sweet potato, a little green leaf (not iceburg) lettuce, all he should like. Also, yogurt! Strawberry or vanilla are Louis' favs! (I use Yoplait whips, Activia, Dannon....just make sure not to get fat free!) Cheerios are a huge fav, as are strawberries w/tops on them!

Thank you so much! He now has yogurt, lettuce, cheerios, a few oats, an apple slice, and of course a bottle cap of pedialyte. I'm still planning to check on him at least once, I guess I'm sort of paranoid. We lost Timothy at a little after 4:00 in the morning, and I am determined to not let that happen again.

Of course, Timothy was a lot sicker than Lani.

Do you have a syringe at all? Or an eye dropper? Offer him water, via the syringe, a drop at a time, as well, and see if he will take it. Let him lick it off, don't try to put it in his mouth. You can try it w/the pedialyte, too, but try water, also. Also, offer him some avocado (lots of fat and they love it!) Make sure he has some warm bedding to snuggle down into!

Lani is still here! Although he is very lucky. I am going to do my best to get my dad to take me to the pet store TODAY! He apparently got out while I was in school. Thank goodness the cats were shut out of the room, and thank goodness my little sisters found him before I got home. They followed his squeaking and found him in the yarn. He seriously needs a container that he won't climb out of.

Close call! Glad the little one is ok. Yes, a small critter keeper works for these guys. Anything with bars they will slip through (even cages made for mice...they are smaller then pet mice at that age!)

Since I no longer think Lani is in danger right now, I'll start another thread for him. Here.

A friend of mine's 15 year old daughter found a baby mouse and fortunately, Erik has tons of FV.

I stopped by a vet to see if they had tiny syringes and what they gave me was a catheter meant for rodents. It looked perfect, no nipple, but this nice, tiny tube that is nicer than hard plastic.

tl;dr Find a vet to give you a tiny catheter!
