I was at Sams Club the other day and saw a package of "Kiwi Berries". I have never seen these before so they got my attention. Apparently they are a small variety of the kiwi fruit. Has anyone tried it with their squirrels?
Below is the nutrition information for one serving of 170 grams. An average berry weighs about 5 grams (I just weighed a bunch!). So it seems like it should be okay.
Be interested to hear if anyone has eaten these themselves and if they have fed them to their squirrels.
Below is a picture of them from the grower but the ones I bought are 1/2 green and 1/2 red on each berry (picture below).

Ok, gave them to all the squirrels here and they LOVED IT. Grabbed it from me and went to town on them.

Hmmmm - do they grow on a fruit tree or from a plant?
I might have to look into planting these. :thumbsup

How's Monkeybutt?
Hey virgo! MonkeyButt is doing just fine. He is an absolute sweetheart. I have 5 other squirrels right now. Three that are about 10, 11, and 13 weeks old. Their names are Koala, Panda and Grizzly (I call him Grizz); otherwise known as The Three Bears! And then you might have seen my thread on the baby that was attacked by a cat; that is Davey. He is tiny and his eyes were open when I got him so I am estimating he was 5 weeks old so he would now be about 7.5 weeks old. Looks like he is going to make it. And I just got another squirrel Saturday night. His name is Charlie. I am going to post a thread about him soon. He is supposed to be an Upper Keys Squirrel. From what I have been told, at adulthood, he should weigh no more than 100 grams. I haven't weighed him yet but I think he weighs more than that now. He is bigger than Davey and Davey was 107 grams last week.
Ok, back to MonkeyButt. MonkeyButt goes into the squirrel nursery and "visits" with everyone. He loves them all. When the Three Bears had the nerve to hiss and growl and charge at him, he just ignored them and got back on my shoulder. I think he was trying to save face!
We have MonkeyButt in the living room in a big cage but I really think he would rather have his cage in the nursery so he can be with all the other squirrels. Of course, I'm still not sure he knows that he is a squirrel!
We will be overwintering the Three Bears for a springtime soft release. It is looking like Davey will be a non-releasable. And Charlie is with me because he was rescued by some residents in the Keys. He was running around but totally not afraid of anyone or anything. He would walk right in their house if they let him. The final straw was when they saw a red tail hawk nearby when Charlie was running around, totally oblivious to the danger. They believe that someone may have raised him and then released him. They tried to find someone down there to take him but could not find him a home. So, he is considered a non-releasable at this point because he is so imprinted with people. He is the most unique squirrel I have seen. He took to everyone who helped him on his trip to me. I will be posting some pics and videos soon.
When MonkeyButt went in the nursery this evening, he got to visit with Charlie for the first time. Charlie was fine with MonkeyButt, did not hiss or growl like my ferocious Three Bears!
How is Knothead? Oh, I just remembered how entertained MonkeyButt was with Knotheads tickling video! I will have to bring each of the other five to my computer and play it for them and see how they react. Should be interesting.
Hugs and kisses to Knothead.

Hey Michele-didn't realize you got Charlie from the keys-I've never seen a squirrel in the keys--we have a place down there, tons of iguanas but never a squirrel.:thinking
I wish I would have know to help with transport as my husband goes often. Let me know if you need any keys help in the future
glad Charlie found a happy home:D
