Talula is a big 1.5 pounds. Not fat. But is 7 months to 8 months. About right?

Yes, they are 1 - 1.5 lbs in the wild. It sounds good to me. I hope I can get my kits so big and healthy, too :) Again, she is really a beauty. It looks like you did well.

1.5lbs is big for a 6mo old grey -- but she doesn't look fat in her pix so I think she's just big-boned. :D

I read somewhere that 1-2 pounds was typical
Mugzi was around that size at that age and the kids I have now are 13 weeks pushing 500g.
I don't think it's typical but good nutrition helps push that genetic size envelope I'm sure.
Ah, here's an article!
Eastern Gray Squirrels (Sciurus Carolinensis)
The gray squirrel is numerically the most common squirrel on the East Coast. Gray squirrels are also known as black squirrels, Carolina gray squirrels, cat squirrels, migratory squirrels, silvertails or timber squirrels. The Eastern Gray Squirrel has six distinct subspecies. (S.c... pennsylvanicus, S.c. hypophaeus, S.c. matecumbei, S.c. fuliginosus, S.c. extimus, and S.c. carolinenis) The subspecies Sciurus Carolinensis Carolinensis is the gray squirrel found in most of the south.
In general, there is no major difference between bucks and does in matters of coat color or size. Following Bergmann's rule, gray squirrels tend to be larger in the north than in the south. While not as large as the fox squirrel, the gray can weigh up to two pounds in weight in the North and be as long as twenty-one inches. In the South, they would normally be half of that weight.

Go here. I posted 3 pics of Eastern Grey errr stole 3 pics. Her ears are big but maybe an adaptation due to the warmer weather here than back east. Not sure. I called San Jose and talked to the wild life people and she is going to be an Eastern I think. I told the guy the area and he said there are tons of Eastern Greys in that area.

I doubt it matters..the boy squirrel Finnagin I have has ears over an inch long. They are almost ridiculous when he pricks them up.
Melanism is common enough in Easterns but if there is some other anatomical trait that distinguishes the two I would certainly want to check that out.

I know I know ...those are all Eastern Gray morphs. We have black's and whites here in Illinois and every shade in between. THere are some that have black lips and chests and hardly any white on the belly . They are very very dark grizzled grays with no eye ring. They look like burnt toast.
THose black lips make me think they are Goth squirrels.
I have seen some come through the center that are beautiful silvery and pale as well. There seems to be no end the variety of these animals.

Rifa is like a mahogany charcoal kind of colour with almost no eye rings:

But it depends on the light a lot. Here is Babe in midmorning light. He looks like a dirty blond colour.

In other lights he looks more reddish or tan or totally grey.
The point being... that I cannot pass up a chance to show off my eastern grey kits ;)

A large grey here would be female and probably about 1.5lbs is the largest possibility...most adults in Tampa {city sqs} are 1-1.25 lbs.
We have many color varieties, but nothing uncommon.
