I'm sure the answer is probably No no dont do it, but I thought I would ask, I really hate to see Littlefoot all by himself all the time and since I don't think I'm going to find a baby his age that is willing to come live with us I was wondering if there was any reason I couldn't get him a rat to play with?

Ha, it is an interesting idea. Well, rats are competitors, sort of, but they don't share habitat in the wild. There is also little risk of her coming to trust a dangerous species as rats are not predators of squirrels. They can be cranky and are probably not friendly to squirrels in the wild, though :) I guess the worst would be confusion? At least I think that would be the worst. But being raised by a human is already confusing for a squirrel... They sure do love company, though. Eastern Greys are so much more social than I ever knew. I think they need that kind of feedback to be mentally, emotionally and physically healthy. It is a lot for a human to take on when a squirrel needs so much companionship. I am glad to have a family here, even though it is many times the work and hassle.

If they were both young enough maybe they'd be friends, but sqs are so much more active than rats I would truly fear for the rat, especially regarding biting. The squirrel could easily bite the ratties little legs right off if they had a problem. I don't know if anyone else has made a friend for them tho.....it just seems potentially really risky for the rattie.

Sweet of you to try to think of a friend. You might have to be all that, LOL.
