Rifa is making some adorable but pathetic stabs at wild behaviour of late. SO CUTE :)
First of all, she is making a drey in one of my hanging spider plants. She gets a bit of paper towel in her mouth and bunches it up into a neat packet, then goes running up the drapes to arrange it. Tonight she grabbed my feather out of the pen jar. It's just a nice one that I found outside. I let her do it. I could hear her tearing it to shreds so happily. The perfect nesting material for her future babies! ;p She does not try to sleep up there. I honestly think these are early mother instincts. They probably make their birthing homes in advance and only move there when ready. That would make sense as there would be less smell to attract predators and they may sleep communally other than when they have kits to care for. She is going to be so pissed off when I water the plants :shakehead
And the funniest thing happened tonight :D I chopped some chestnuts in half for them and put them in their cage. I always put dinner in first, now, so that I get no argument about bedtime. She quietly snuck out of the study, found them, and quickly hid them from me and her sibs. LOL The first two were hidden so poorly. She put them in the handle of the washing machine. The other two were hidden under the leaves of my aloe vera plant. When I heard her it was because she was discovering that the dirt in the plants can be dug up. Oh the revelation of it! She made an impressive mess in the few seconds that it took for me to go get her. :rotfl I closed up the cage and got everyone in, went looking for the stashed chestnut halves. Wow, did she ever have a mouthful for me when I got to the right places! She was swearing up a storm in squirrel-speak, I am sure :D I gave them to all of them, and so everyone got a half chestnut. I feel just a little bit bad for thwarting her evil plan, though ;)
