Hey All,

Nutmeg has always had good stools...but in the past few days I noticed his poops being a little soft - not diarrhea, but soft. He even shot a turd onto the wall - I told him he was no Pablo Picaso and to stop hanging his "art" on my wall - hee hee.

I recently started giving him and his sister Dandelion Greens - it's their first time having them and I'm thinking that's the culprit. He does not appear to be ill - diet is normal and he's active - just a little loose. Has anyone else had this issue with the Dandelion Greens?

I know new food introductions can sometimes cause stomach upset, but anytime I've given them other new things in the past, the poops have been fine. I was just curious about the greens - :thinking

It may be too much of a good thing - like kids, if they find something they like, they may overindulge. Don't give any for a day or so and see if things firm up.

A note about dandelions: I think that the fear of overdosing on Vitamin A from vegetable sources is highly unlikely, but you should know that dandelions have more Vitamin A than any other plant source. Great for birds, but I wouldn't feed to a mammal more than a couple times a week.

Isn't that the truth - he's quite the little piggie when it comes to his food too. I will back off of the greens and see how it goes :)

Yup. The little Pablo Picaso decorated my wall :) but it was one mushy kinda turd that stuck to the wall like spaghetti - not diarrhea splatter.

Hi Nutmeg's Mommy! I've never had that happen with dandlion greens, but it sure happens with maple helicopters. Too many of those and it's mush city, LMBO!!!! I only feed the small baby dandilion leaves, no longer than about 6 inches, about 3 or 4 of them 3 or so times a week. They are SUPER high in Vit K too, very nutritious. It doesn't surprise me that they might have caused loose stools given the SUPER vit/min content in them. Here's what they have according to human RDA:

Dandelion Greens: 960% Vit K, 203% A, 58% C, 17% Iron, 17% Manganese, 11% potassium, , 13% B1, 15% B2, 11% E, 9% copper, 9% magnesium

Hope those poopies clear up :D :grouphug
