Hi. My 10-11 week old grey is giving me a hard time eating his veggies. He takes 55-60ccs of fox valley everyday and LOVES his Mazuri blocks byt is really picky about his veggies. I have tried: lettuce, peas, beans, squash (a favorite) cucumbers, carrots, apples, grapes and I am sure I am missing some. He always eats the blocks first and then squash but only nibbles on the others and I end up throwing them out. Is there something else that I should do for him? He is well over 300 grams (he won't let me put him on the scales anymore...he is too quick!). He eats 2 blocks everyday but I am afraid if he won't eat his other foods he will go hungry. I keep offering the veggies in hopes he will decide they are good! Will he enjoy them more as he gets older? Might be a bit young...or just really picky? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

I'm always tossing out vegies. My girl switches up constantly as to what she likes and dislikes. Try the parts of the vegies we don't eat. Like the romaine cores, broccoli stems, green pepper centers, apple cores etc. I've also learned that she likes the things that are in season and I buy organic as much as possible. If he is eating his blocks you've already won the major battle. Good luck.

Maybe it's because they're New York City squirrels, but my brats always seem to love best whatever costs the MOST. Radicchio....endive...snow pea pods.....broccoli rabe......ka-Ching!! :osnap

We have tried a bunch of different stuff but I will try the stuff we would usually throw away (inside parts of the veggies). He will eat the snow peas but leaves the pods...! Picky little bugger. I have rehabbed lots of red squirrels but never a picky squirrel in my house :) I don't know if he isn't hungry and that is why he isn't eating them but I would be willing to bet money he would eat more than 2 blocks a day if I would let him. He is taking about 60ccs of formula a day so maybe he really isn't to hungry? I would hate to cut back on the formula...I figure as long as he will take it, I will continue to feed it. If someone else thinks I should cut back, let me know.

While a squirrel is on formula (especially that much formula :D) you don't need to worry so much about the calcium/.phosphorous stuff and the leafy green veggies, because he's getting everything he needs from the Fox Valley. It's after weaning that we get into trouble unless we train them to eat the right things. As for the pea pods, they ALL do that === just eat the peas, not the pods. At $6/lb......:shakehead :tilt

Ok...so he still will not eat his veggies! He really acts like he is hungry all the time. Like I said he is drinking about 60ccs of formula a day plus 2 mazuri blocks. I finally just got a weight on him...406 grams. We got him on 9/10 and eyes were opened...recently I would guess (he weighed 98 grams). Do I continue to give that much formula? I am certain he would take more if I would let him. I am not trying to force him to wean just thinking he should start wanting something else besides blocks and formula.

Keep offering veg and green branches. Soon enough your babies will be chowing on the greens and turning up their noses at the formula...probably in the next week or so. Mine are 12-13 and one is almost weaned eating great and ready to hit the trees. Her brother... well ....he's a momma's boy :shakehead

As I was reading the post I couldnt help but say "wow with all that formula and 2 blocks how could he have any room left over for veggies" - I think when he is willing to decrease the formula then the veggie eating will increase - :thumbsup
