I just realized I posted this on the incorrect forum. Apologies.
A week ago we found a baby squirrel (8-10 weeks old), cared for him to a t, he was energetic last night, and ate plenty this morning.
I went to feed him for his mid-day and found him frozen in a superman style posture. Over the next hour he had maybe 10 seizures. Some very minor with others contorting his little body.
He died curled up in a fetus position while sitting in my lap outside. Very sad.
This would be the 3rd baby squirrel we have raised. The first one made it through being raised by us and adapted very well to living outside.
The second died very young due to pneumonia.
This was the first time I have seen seizures of this nature in a baby squirrel. Something I would like to point out is he was born with only 4 toes on his front feet. He was missing his "thumbs". I know sometimes when animals (and humans for that matter) are born with undeveloped limbs there can be internal issues as well.
Woops...I believe I posted this on the wrong forum. Apologies...
I'm just curious why this occurred so suddenly and if anyone knows what the possible cause could be?
He was by far the sweetest and most reserved of the 3 we have raised. He only wanted to be sitting with us on the couch constantly.
We will miss him very much.
