Hi Friends

Happy Saturday Night !

I just got done with some shopping and some chores and finally got a moment to get on here.
Sparky just crawled in his stripped bag nest in his cage.
He put himself to bed for the night.
and I am worried about Chuck.
Chuck hurt his left front paw yesterday night on something.
He went to bed early in his Milk Bone Box above the fridge in the kitchen last night.
He is limping pretty good and not using very much.
Can tell it hurts him.
He has climbed in my lap and like showed me his paw.
He keeps licking his big toes.
They look kind of red and swollen some.
He does let me touch them but kind of squints.
not sure if broke ?
He is doing some light chattering
seems kind of mad today .
he slept in till 8:30 am this morning.
usually he gets up at first light about 6.00 am
He has been running slow around here and there on mostly three legs.
Climbing the curtains to get on the fridge real slow.
He went to bed at 7:00 pm already tonight.
usually he should still be up for awhile its Saturday night.

I been thinking about getting him up to give him some pain medicine.
I have Infants Ibuprofen Concentrated Drops 50mg per 1.25ml
Would this be ok to give Chuck tonight. ?
or should I let him sleep ?
I cant remember the amount of cc dose for pain.
I remember giving him some for pain when his butt was all swollen
But don't remember now
Chuck must off Fell or twisted his paw on something
he was in the garage at the time.
could of been anything .... crap.
I would really appreciate any advise or idea's what to do ?
or what the right cc dose of Infants Ibuprofen Concentrated Drops 50mg per 1.25ml would be and the time frame between doses.

Thanks very much
Squirrely Steve and Chucky and Sparky

Thanks Astra :thankyou
That's so kind of you to start a Thread for Chuck.....Thank you :grouphug

Chuck got up a little bit ago and had a nibble of apple and got a drink and changed nests in the kitchen and went back to bed. :)
He is still limping quite a bite :sanp3
Hardy using at all :shakehead
I tried to look up from last time the amount of pain medicine to give him.... could not find.
I am scared to give him the med's without advise.
He weights just about 1-1/8 pounds
I will get a better weight in the am with my scale and when I am checking him out.
And I will get some pictures and maybe a movie on his leg or paw in the morning.
He is sleeping good now.
I think I will get some sleep too and get up early and post some pictures and more information.
Dang ..... I am getting worried about him.:shakehead

Thanks :thankyou

don't even mention it, Steve! - the least I could do.

I wish I could be of more help with this, but i don't know enough about dosing meds/possible ailments, unfortunately (need more experience with that), but I am sure the knowledgeable people will need exact weight in grams, pics and even better - a movie of his limping, and all possible details of his activities before limping... hope someone experienced will be here soon... poor little Chucky:grouphug :Love_Icon :grouphug

Steve, see how he is in the morning. I would like to see him maybe kept inside his cage so he can't move around a lot. The problem with giving them pain meds for stuff like this is if they work well enough, the squirrel will further hurt the area because they use it like it isn't injured because the pain is gone. Can you let us know first thing in the AM how he is?

He is the same.... still really holding his paw and not hardly using.:sanp3
I helped him off the fridge and onto the critter couch.
a very good point about giving him pain med's.
He might get hurt more.
he is not crying
yesterday night he was doing lots of low chattering
Yes I may have to cage him up today to keep him quite to let him heal.
Dang Sunday is his play day.
I'll get a movie together.

Thanks so much :grouphug

Dumb question, Steve? No wound of any kind? Might something have fallen on him?

My heart aches for you Steve as I know what your sweet Chuck means to you!

Most definitely keep him confined so he does not injure it more and give his leg rest! At least, until you can possibly figure out what is going on with his leg!

Must not be feeling too great if his teeth are "chattering?" Poor fellow!

Maybe, he did this to get some attention away from his Brother, Sparky? LOL

Hoping some more of the experts will be waking up this Sunday morning and reading the SB soon! We may have some sleepy heads here!:rotfl

Don't know about the pain meds, of course, If it is suggested, be sure and keep him confined as he would NOT feel pain and keep using it more than necessary. Just my 2 cents as an RN for humans!

I think he will be OK once you figure out what his problem is and tx!

Good luck, Steve!

Sending many hugs and much love from the West Coast!

I think this is very likely - he found a pinch point and hurt his toes. Poor Chuck.

In addition to his needing to have restricted activity, especially with meds, I would add that if you want to let him lay on the sofa in the sun, please NO DOGS OR CATS. A limp or other sign of weakness can trigger a predator animal - even in your happy household - to act like a predator. OK?? PLEASE??!

Sorry, I am still thinking of possible causes for Chuck's limping? Not a possible Spider Bite or another kind of insect bite? I was just thinking a Garage and webs, etc.

Keeping him away from the dogs and cats is probably a good idea. I don't totally trust predator species (being one myself).

Yeah, Steve, it is probably broken. Just like people, there isn't much you can do for a toe! Just keep him quiet and in a couple days I bet you will start seeing him using it more and more.

Make him some of those Boo Balls - the extra Fox Valley will provide lots of good nutrients to speed his healing.

Tell Chuckie that my horse stepped on my foot a couple years ago and I know how much his poor little footie hurts:Love_Icon

Hi Squirrely Steve, glad to read Chucky & Sparky are becoming best buds. Sorry to read Chuck has been limping, that was very good pic you took showing the redness. That's the same paw the wild morph Crumbs was limping on a couple months back. Hope Chuck can get some rest, it looks like he knows better than to walk on it. Wish the little guy a speedy recovery,

Yeah, there is a reason they tell you not to wear sneakers in the barn:osnap - and that "oh snap" were all the bones in my foot!!

Steve, Chuck's instinct is to try not to appear sick or wounded, so he will try to use the foot. If you can keep him quiet and mostly in his cage while this heals he won't be as likely to further injure it trying to look "normal." However, they heal a LOT faster than we do so this shouldn't be a long recovery. Give him lots of lovins so he doesn't get jealous of Sparky while he's in jail.

Van Halen jumps...I don't even want to ask...:shakehead

Sweet lil' Chucky. He seems to move around very actively, so he certainly has his health. It is just the bum foot.
I think you are receiving some great advice here. I'm sure with time Chucky will be back to his usual self. I just
saw one of my wild squirrels last week with the exact paw in the same condition. With all the climbing and jumping
they do it is no wonder they get such injuries. Thank you for caring so much and looking after him.
