Hey guys! I have two flyer aprox 1 1/2 years old...last night one of my babies apparently escaped and this morning I found him in the toilet...I scooped him out and put him back in his cage with a heater...He went directly into his nesting box with the other flyer...is there anything else I can do or is it a wait and see? I have no idea how long he was in there but he was shivering once he got out...Any help would be appreciated!!!

Mandi...I do not know the treatment, others will reply with health hints. However; a very EASY & inexpensive solution to preventing a recurrence
1 -Keep the LID DOWN ( HA ! )
2- Make some Squirrel ladders.
Wire mesh called HARDWARE CLOTH, in 1/2 X 1/2 or 1/4 X 1/4 is best. Hand bend it around the lip of ALL your toilets and they can get out of the water, and save themselves.

Getting him warm was the best thing.
Chances are, he's fine.
Just keep an eye on him for a few days....and close those lids.

Thanks for the replies! I've gone in to check on him several times and he's poked his head out of his nestbox...his eyes are sleepy looking...I'm sure he had one heck of a night! Hopefully he'll recover and believe me from now on ALL lids will be closed!!!
the grid is 1000% required for all flyer parents.... :D it only takes one time for someone to forget ....
and don't worry, it's easy, cheap and very, very sanitary!!! and easily bleached along with the rest of the toilet... just make sure you get something that is stainless steel or something that won't rust....
it's just not worth not having one....
this is the only time that i've heard of a flyer not drowning .... and i'm so glad this is not in the 'all squirrels go to heaven forum' ... you've no idea how very lucky he/you are.....
i'm hoping he didn't get water in his lungs nor is he in shock.....

This IS absolutely the first survivor we have EVER HAD in the "flyer fell in toilet category".... thank you, God!
Make the little ramp -- now -- today! An absolute must.
And don't trust yourself or those in your house to remember to "just keep the lid down". I have told this before, but as many times as I've said this to flyer owners on this board, I myself went to visit Jackie in Tampa and committed THREE FLYER SINS in two minutes! She had the babies out at night.....I went to the potty and then left the toilet lid UP and the door OPEN...and then I came back to the living room and plopped myself down on the couch without looking behind me and nearly squished a baby!:eek::eek: :nono
IT happens to all of us.....get the ramp!

Believe me I'm definitely thanking God for saving him!!! One question though...how would I know if he's in shock? He'll be snoozing all day and I won't see him until tonight...I'm guessing he just wouldn't be as active as he normally is??? I sure hope he's going to be OK...

As long as he did not inhale any water, he should recover from being cold. Listen for that clicking when breathing.
When I found my last rehab baby, she was so cold she was stiff and I thought she was already dead! But then let out this agonizing breath. I warmed her and she began to respond, rehydrated and then the next day she drank formula like a trooper!

Here is another picture of the little ladder. Mandatory for flyer households. Materials at any hw store. Lids get left up.

Just wanted to update everyone - my little baby seems to be doing great...No clicking and very active - he's eating and playing :) I have installed a draft guard under their door to ensure no more late night escapes...and ALL lids are down :) Thanks everyone for all of the help and well wishes...we're going to install the ladders this weekend!!! Happy Halloween everyone!
