This is my first experience with Fox Valley....And so far I'm not very impressed maybe I am doing something wrong. The formula is thick and icky and I can't seem to get the lumps out of it. I mix 2 parts water to 1 part formula with a little heavy whipping cream or yogurt...Can this be pre mixed? and how long can it be stored in the fridge.

hi virgo....as I've said a million times here I don't put anything into my FV -- neither the 32/40 nor the 20/50, so if the problem with mixing is from the cream or yogurt I can't help ya. BUT, I don't have trouble mixing the straight formula so long as I use VERY hot water. And one of those tiny little whisks that they sell for whipping up one egg? It's about 7" long...works like a charm.

That's what I use the little egg beater wisk...maybe I should omit the extra in it.....It seems that at the end of the nipple the FV gets chunked up.

Someone gave me a battery-operated coffee stirrer for whipping the foam up. Maybe you could find one on line. They sell them in kitchen stores and it is one of my favorite toys. I use it because I use Starbucks instant and make my own lattes without having to steam the soy milk. Does it happen without the whipping cream or yogurt?

Hmmm...

I have been using FV for several seasons. It used to mix beautifully, even with just warm water. However, this last batch I got (a couple of months ago) I noticed that it doesn't mix as well. I do not mix anything with it. Maybe they have changed something in the formula?:dono

Here's what I do:

I put in 1 scoop of FV then I put 2 scoops of water - I mix this in a tupperware container with a good sealing lid and then I shake the crap out of it in quick motions. I don't stir or whisk and I haven't had any problems with it... I also add a bit of whipping cream and yogurt but I do this AFTER I've mixed the FV, and shake shake shake... I also use lukewarm water.

:) Hope this helps!

Don't you just love sealing Tupperware?? This is my method of mixing too when making small batches.

I bought one of the shaker jars from Chris Squirrels and More for the larger batches. I LOVE it. They have two sizes. I bought the smaller one. Mixes it up great.

Do you make up a batch and store it in the fridge

You can make up a batch and store it in the frig but it is only good for 24 hours, so don't make up too much. I do make up some and then transfer it to an old tuppereware tall spice shaker and sit that in a hot water bath to warm up.

With just one I used to make it up a serving at the time with hot tap water, but this year discovered that my water was causing a problem with my babies so I do mix it up ahead of time because I use bottled water.

I sure do, I make it at night around 8pm or so and throw it out at 8pm the next night. Stored in the fridge :)

Since I only have one (fox squirrel) baby I'll double the mixture... so it's:

2 Tablespoons FV
4 Tablespoons Water
1 Tsp Whipping Cream
1 Tsp of Yogurt

I also use the shaker jars. I bought one from Chris Squirrels and More and picked another one up at a local health food store. It has this little metal wire ball in it and when you shake it up, I guess the little metal wire ball hits against any clumps and breaks them up.

I have also thought they would be great for making instant pudding, you know on those days when you just gotta have some dessert!

I use the 32/40 straight up when they are small and add the Ultra Boost when thy are older. It is the consistency of cream. I ad the very hot water in increments and whisk in between. FV really requires no additives.
I don't do the shaky thing because it get too frothy and makes my squirrels belch....so rude :rotfl

Love that bottle from Chris' .... so much nicer than the teeny, tiny wire whisk I used to use.

I never had any problem mixing Fox Valley. I stick it in some sealed container and shake it up. Use hot water to do it. I do NOT feed it right away after shaking it. I give it time to settle, just a few minutes. I make sure there are no air bubbles in my syringe. I have a method for that as well. Draw up some, then depress it all out, then the next time you draw up it will have no air.
