Hello all! :wave123
I am trying to get my two little ones to try their HHBs . One of them will nibble a bit (not sure she is ingesting it though) and the other is completley disinterested.
I know they will take to them over time, but it would be really great if they'd eat some now. Also, one of my girls is slightly disabled (front paws) and I think having something a tad softer to chew apart would be easier...just temporarily, till they get the hang of nomming on things.
I saw someone post a recipie using crushed up blocks, peanut butter and applesauce...there were other things too but i cannot remember and can't find the thread it was in.
If you know of it or someone who does, it would be greatly apreciated. :peace

Grind them up and mix with some vanilla yogurt and maybe a little dab of almond butter (much better for them than peanut butter); warm over a container of hot water like formula and prepare the damp towels for the mess that will ensue. Babies don't get extra points for neatness!

hahahhaha....Im looking for the same thread. My guys have figured out that they can eat all around it and get the nut out. I have HHB sprinkles everywhere and I dont think they are eating the healthy part. I think someone mentioned Boo Balls?

Poor Mama2boo - she called them Boo's Healthy Nutballs and I immediately re-christened them Boo Balls because I am a vile person:D . They are a good treat, and would be a nice way to get the babies eating solids. 1 part ground block, 1 part FV powder, 1 part ground nut of choice (you can cut back on the nut part a bit) mixed with enough baby food (I use yogurt instead, BTW) to make a dough about the consistency of chocolate chip cookie dough. Refrigerate overnight and you will find that it has dried up a bit as the dry ingredients absorb the baby food. Add a little more baby food until you hve the dough consistency and just keep it covered in the fridge. Pinch off a little chunk, roll into a ball and you are done! I make up very small amounts at a time so it doesn't sit in the fridge more than a couple days. Keep all of the ingredients (especially the ground nute) in the fridge as well.:thumbsup

Guess we're both nasty old ladies :D I have always called them BooBalls...easier to type.
Drop the nut part since HHBs have nuts. I drop the nuts and just mix Fv powder and block. For Toturo I would add formula and make a thick gruel that she can lap up. You can try giving it to her on a spoon. I'm ditching nuts until my kids eat block. Why spoil their palate early?

You were in the restaurant biz, right - are you a foodie - enough to use a knife well? You can actually "mill" them (just keep chipping through them) down with a big knife fairly fine - if you are patient, you can get them really fine. I have a coffe grinder that is like a tiny cuisinart - I cut the blocks small (the Harlan Teklad I put in a baggie and smack a few times with a meat mallet to break them up) and it turns it to powder. A little chunky works, too, though.

I could chop them finely sure...Im just super finiky about how my very expensive knives are used. I'd rather smash them with a 10 dollar hammer than risk ruining a 200 dollar knife. All my tools ( knives) are EXTREMELY sharp...and one slip and Im missing a finger.

The HHBs aren't hard and dry like the Harlan Teklad blocks - those smash just great, I think HHBs will flatten. HHB tortillas. Wait. Hey! I just invented something!!

I borrowed a knife from my daughter so I didnt run the risk of hurting me....or my expensive knife. Chopped them up coarsely, put what I chopped in a new coffee grinder and I have HHB dust!! WHoohooo!! Gunna go make some balls.

Try soaking them in some formula.
That was the first thing I tried. They are smarter than I thought...they licked what formula they could off the surface and left the rest.
Thank you CrM for your recipie and for momma2boo's "boo balls":D . We'll try it out and see how it goes.
@jo_schmoe...good luck with it too!

I did mine in the blender. Worked great! But it was super LOUD!:osnap I'm sure the babies all the way on the other side of the house could hear it.

Good idea mugz! I think gruel would work for her. And yeah...the extra nuts, we want those to be for treats!

We haven't made any yet. When I blended mine in the blender ...it was a few days ago. I was just trying my own thing out. I mixed the powdered HHB with just a tad of yogurt to help it stick together. It didnt go well. The balls fell apart when they put their hands on them...and they didn't eat any anyways. LOL! I still gotta run to the store to get some of the stuff for the boo balls. :)
