I have two Greys that are approximately 6 weeks old. Front top and bottom teeth are in, fur is thick and silky but tail is not bushy yet. They are able to sit up for a short while.

I feed every 3.5-4 hours, including at night. I'm using Esbilac with cream to feed. They also have avocado, banana and today they have soaked Henry's blocks.

They look healthy, eat well, but only weigh 43 and 45 grams. Stools are firm and mustard yellow.

Is something wrong? I'm worried because I saw a chart that said they should weigh 80-100 grams and be eating 8-10cc per feeding. No way they could eat that in formula right now!

How much are they eating at each feeding? My boy is about 6 weeks old and weighs 111 grams. He was 86 grams when I got him in last Thursday.

We need to get some weight on these guys. If they are in fact only 43 and 45 grams they should be skinny. Can you please post a picture?

I would suggest adding a touch of organic extra virgin coconut oil to the formula ... just a touch (.5 cc for 5 cc's formula) but only a couple times a day. I would look into getting that ultra stuff from Fox Valley.

Are you sure you read the scale in grams? Is it possible that it was 4.3 ounces? If so, that is more like it. That would put your boys around 113 - 114 "ish" grams.

Nope, checked for grams. It's the postal scale I use for my business.

The first three are of Crockett, the last two are of Tubbs.

:rotfl oh they're FLYERS not greys!!!! :rotfl:rotfl:rotfl
You scared the bejeesus out of me, i thought they were grey squirrels!!!! In which case at that age, at that weight, they frankly shouldn't have been alive. I'll let our wonderful flying squirrel folks here tell you whether that's a good weight for 6 week old FLYERS :jump

Whew! Me too! I was so worried, because they look pretty healthy to me! I totally got worried when I read that chart!

I started to wonder if they weren't something else, but my uncle who has raised foxes (like that makes him an expert) said they were greys.

Live and learn. So glad I asked! Thanks to both of you!
:thankyou

Personally I think they are more brown than gray :D
I was pretty taken aback as well...waited for pix to show up before responding and got quite a chuckle... they look good to me but it's been YEARS since I've had a flyer!

2skwurlz, we've got some great flyer people here, including: muffinsquirrel, Jackie in Tampa, legomom, Skul, Mrs Skul, MiriamS.....if they don't wander into your thread sometime today and give you advice, why don't you send them a private message? I am also going to put a copy of this post in the Breed Specific - FLying Squirrels forum, which may get them going for ya!

Thank you so much! I was going to start another thread, since I have been caring for them like they were 6 week-old greys, I think I may have stunted their development! I imagine since they are flyers, they are older than I thought.

I knew something wasn't right! But instead of questioning whether my uncle was right about them being greys, I questioned how I was caring for them. I hope I haven't set them back too much.

I'd really like to know their age, so I can plan on overwintering if I need to.
Thanks!
