Ok...So the 2 babies we got a few weeks ago from the neighbors are growing fast and healthy. My son built a big cage for all of them and the 3 of them were doing well together.
Now I have noticed that 1 of the brothers is picking on Skittles. Being a bully actually. We separated Skittles last night so he could sleep and we fed him by himself too. We are pretty sure he is blind in 1 eye and possibly deaf in 1 ear and hasn't been with other squirrels since July 16, up until we got the brothers.
I've noticed in the past few days one of the brothers (the bully) doesn't want to be picked up anymore, even to eat and they are weaning themselves of formula.
I don't know what else to do as I don't want to separate the brothers, but I can't keep Skittles in a very small cage either.
I also don't know what to do with the brothers as far as winter goes. Do I overwinter or ? This is a La Nina year and supposed to be bad for winter, although Kansas doesn't get super cold normally, we did have 20 below temps last year. I don't think Skittles could ever be released so I'm not worried about him, just the brothers.
As I type this, Skittles is sitting next to the laptop happily eating avocado and the brothers are tearing around the cage jumping and chasing each other.
All advice is greatly appreciated!
