My name is Sherrie, we found a tree fox-squirrel baby laying abandoned (or cat victim) approx 7 or more days ago. We heard strange crying all day but it was off and on. My son went outside and stood to figure out what it was, and after about 30 mins he accidently saw it at the base of his window on ground. It wasn't hurt--we followed the pedialyte and esiblac. Tried not to feed wrong--turn upside down when bubble/nose. 2 feedings ago, I noticed seemed less active and poop was loose. Now is very weak and I hear clicking. I feel so bad and helpless. We were trying to help it till we could find help to rehab it--am very worried. What I can do? Who can help? He is in a warm spot--and this downturn has been rapid. I am recently widowed. Flat broke till Wednesday next weekhave no money to go to a vet (no insurance or Social Sec Benefits)....am in school now to learn a job. It is heartbraking to think I may be loosing this battle when I was trying to help save its life...Can you help me?

The clicking sound is unfortunately probably pneumonia; the baby probably aspirated some formula while eating. The only thing that will help that is meds. Can you ask people you know who have pets if they have any Baytril? Even the big tabs for a dog will work - one of the rehabbers can help you to break down the dosage.

Also, can you re-post - still in the evergency forum here, but add to the title something like "Help in Oregon/Washington" - we have several members in that area and one may be able to help if they see that in the post title.

Sherrie, if you can find someone that has SMZ-TMP (sulfatrim), an amoxicillin tablet left over, anything like that. weigh the baby and I can help you dose. Hopefully you and or Riverock are close.
Hold the baby's chest up to your ear and listen. If the 'clicking' is nasal you may be OK. Shooting milk out the nose puts them off their feed too. When Baby is open mouth breathing you absolutely need meds
