View Full Version : Ciprofloxacin
So I'm scared to death of Jambee getting pneumonia he hasn't got any in his nose since he was about 2weeks old, but he has a runny nose. I'm just sitting around waiting for clicking/open mouth breathing.
I got to looking through my med cabinet and found Ciprofloxacin 500mg tabs I looked it up on here and found that its pretty much the same thing as the stuff you guys use for pneumonia.
I just wanted to know, if since he has a runny nose would it be okay to give him some? And EVEN if not, what would the dosing be give he does start clicking/open mouth breathing?
I'd have to cut the pill up right? How would I know how much I'm giving him?
Thanks guys, I don't know what I would of done without this site...

I have never used it...I will try to research this AM for you, I know there are many side effects in the human use...a few years ago it was all over the news.

It was given to my husband july 23rd of this year. So its not that old but I have no idea how long they last. I'll look it up. The vet tech that agreed to see Jambee only agrees to looking him over, she wont and has said she wont give me meds for him. I seen that I can buy baytril online without a prescription but I have no idea if thats safe or if its not a scam. Has anyone ever done that?

In one of the links I posted it talks about the integrity of these sites and the NoT So Monitoring of the manufacturing process...not sure though, I have never ordered any meds thru these sites...:peace
I think in the links it also talks about the time that the drug would be good after breaking down into water...it seems that you will need to be very careful in that aspect also...
If the tablet is 500mg, it will need to be dosed down alot...making that hard to get an exact dose...AND it may only last 24 hours in the fridge...so alot of math and tablets maybe needed to follow thru with a 7-10 day treatment of precise and effective dosing...:sanp3
It klls me that a person in the animal field would NOT HELP you help a sq...wtf? I always think what damage can it be to help a sq...
people are buttheads sometimes...:peace
I wonder if theres a rehabber in the area that I could buy them from.. I'm sure thats illegal but heck I started breaking the law when I picked him up off the road and pulled the ants off of him. It took me forever to find someone who would even look at him. I had one vet tell me to let nature take its toll.. you can guess where I told him to go and where to ram it.
The tabs are 500mg... I wonder if I can just shave a little off and add to 1cc of water... At the moment its just a runny nose, so I'm not worried about giving him too little, just too much.
Ugh.. I'm getting a headache! I don't much about meds...

Figuring the dose is not that difficult But you will require a .5cc syringe
THat's POINT FIVE or half of a CC THe dose when suspended will be in the hundredths of thousands range when soluble.
My big question is
What are treating this baby for?
Prophylactic ABs are not necessarily a good thing here. Squirrels can have wet noses from time to time. It is just that, a wet nose.
Unless he has obvious signs of aspiration don't fuss. He's fine Mom! :D
