View Full Version : HELP! bloat & no poo
We got a 5 week old squirrel 5 days ago and he hasn't pooped. Now he is looking kind of bloated. We've tried massages, warm water, gas medicine and pedialyte and nothing is working. Also my mom said pedialyte has no nutrients so if I only feed him that won't he starve? I relly need help if you have any advice.

What are you feeding him? Are you stimulating him? Can you post a picture of his tummy? You need to get him to poop. You can try some diluted apple juice. You should never give a squirrel pedialyte for more than 24 hours...you can also try a couple of drops of mineral oil, and keep stimulating him with a damp tissue.
Try to get a picture please...:)
Do you have him on a heating pad...low, half under the container and half off...
Thanks for the advice he is doing a little better now. I will try to get a picture but we have dial up internet so I don't no if it will load fast enough. We are stimulating him. His stomach is just a little bloated right now, but we had a squirrel die from bloat a couple of years ago so I was freaking out.

Yes they can die from bloat. What are you feeding him?
Milk formula. I think the real problem is that he can't poop he did once 2 days ago and it was rock hard and he hasn't gone since.

You should have him on Fox Valley...not quite sure what you mean by milk formula. Have you tried anything else like mineral oil? You can get some baby prunes and give him some in a syringe. You need to get this little one to poop...this is not good for him. Do you want me to try to find a rehabber that can help you? Where are you located?
