I have been feeding my baby "Rocky" the pedialite and he has had 4 feedings now of abot 2.5 cc each, bt he has still not gone to the bathroom. I dont know if I should go ahead and start him on the formula or continue the pedialite..please help.

Are you stimulating him to go? This is a must: use your finger wrapped in a tissue & dipped in warm water, rub gently side to side. Some babies take a loooong time to start going.

Yes I been trying to stimulate him...do I keep going with the pedialite or give him formula now?

my little ones were abandoned for probably more than two days, and it took as long to get them fully rehydrated - about 2.5 days. Keep giving as much pedialyte as he will take until you get a good stream of clear, yellow urine and don't give anything caloric until you do, seems to be the consensus, and that is what I did, too. They are doing fine 2 weeks later.

not longer than 24 hours, though! He will need nourishment so you will want to give him DILUTED formula alternating with the Pedialyte. Do not mix Pedialyte and Formula together.

I was told once you start any formula, to not use pedialyte, but just water in between feedings to hydrate. That is what I have been doing, using water, no more pedialyte after the initial 24 hrs. Anyone else do this?

Ok why the diluted formula? How diluted do I make it?

I make the formula as usual and then draw up 25% formula and 75% water for 3 feedings, then do 50/50 for 3 feedings, then 75/25 for 3 feedings. As long as the baby is urinating a lot and it is pretty clear you can go to full strength.

The diluted formula provides the extra hydration needed without the salt and sugar content of pedialyte.

How are you stimulating him? I used a tissue, dipped in warm water, and flick very quickly and keep doing it even after you see pee. Go very fast with the flicking the tissue and you should get some more out. (Oh, put him on light fleece, he may be pooping while he is wiggling around in his box and you are not seeing it. That is what was happening with my three.) Good luck!!
