Recently I cannot shake off the feeling that my Chipmunk is going through depression. First of all, I got her a mineral block for birds as a chew toy. She doesn't use it a lot and I can hear her grind her teeth. Second, I gave her a epmty cereal box after reading that it can be a great toy. She totally ignored the thing. But most of all, she begs to let her out while in the cage. She used to do that since her youth but that's when she was in a small cage, now she has a bigger one with a homemade hammock + cloth ledge in it, still she begs to let her out. When I do she would hop onto my hand and then explore the room. The problem with her these days is that she won't. For a while she would explore, then she would go back into her cage and beg to let her out again even when the cage doors clearly open.
I use my lad to get her attention and lead her out of the cage but soon, she goes back inside and repeats the begging. Once she does that multiple times, she would stop climbing out of the cage. She does go close to the entrance but she won't come out. More recently, she has begun to sit still on the hammock, yes both when I let her out for free run and when she's locked inside. Still she jumps onto my hand the monet I open the door, it is only after a while she goes back inside and sits still on the hammock. Sometimes she would lie flat somewhere else. Lying on her belly with her chin close to the floor, she stays like that. Sometimes she moves when I get close to her, sometimes she doesn't even do that.
She's almost a year old by the way. About 11 months old I would say, her first birthday would around September which is next month.
