Found these in my parents' backyard. Dunno what they are, or really what kind of tree they fell from...can Lulu-Bean eat them?

For a second I thought of Osage Orange.
A pix of a branch with leaves would be a great help.

Oh darn, I didn't get a picture of the trees...I'm back at my apartment now. But the texture of the things are rough, like they're tree bark (obviously, it's not though).
I'm scowering the internet, maybe I can get a lead.

Black walnuts babe and the squirrelies LOVE em!!! They have a very potent dye that stains their faces and paws...and your fingers if you cut them up!
Do they have a spicy sweetish smell?
see if you can set a pic of the leaves. Should be several, somewhat saw toothed, opposing, pointed leaves on a stem.

I agree. Those are black walnuts. Peel one open to be sure. You should see the nut inside.
BTW, im new here and all of your advice has helped me save my 2 new babies.
Will post more in another forum as I dont wanna step on toes.
Rocky and Rhoada thank you all very much for your great advice!!!
Hadn't thought of Black Walnut.
It's been decades since I've seen one.
They look bigger than what I remember.
I think you guys are right.

Mugz is right. They're definitely black walnuts. My Mom has tons of those trees and my stepdad spends hours each year picking them off the lawn. They make good missiles when hit with the lawn mower. They're totally safe for fuzzers. Chicklet spends a looonnngg time just gnawing away to get to the nut!

Cool, thanks everybody! :thankyou
I've given Lulu-Bean the small nuts before, but I've never seen the big, green things. Odd that black walnuts would be green, but shows what I know!:D

All shell nuts develop inside an outer casing or husk that in some cases splits open and ejects the nut or, in the case of the black walnut, dries and sloughs off.
Just some nutty facts :D

If you want to know what the staining looks like, go to Squirrely Steve and Chuck's thread - Chuck has been sporting brown walnut lipstick lately!:D

Huh. Well, imagine that! That's super interesting, I never knew! Thanks!
I mean, I grew up in a city, and that's just not something you learn about in my school system. But that's why I brought my question here, first, because I always know I can find an answer here!
