View Full Version : Sophie's mouth & a yard kid

I noticed this brownish/blackish lump on Sophie's mouth a few days ago. At first, I thought it was just dirt from digging in the yard. Now, 3 days later, it is still there. It doesn't seem to bother her & she's been cracking nuts without a problem. Any ideas what it is? (I just took these pics a few minutes ago. I'll also attach the cropped close ups for a better look.)

On another note, I'm pretty sure at least one of my yard boys has been dealing with bots. Ick! Is this the end stage or early stage? I know there's nothing I can do, but watch & wait. Poor guy has at least 3, possibly 4 spots that I can see. He doesn't get too close.

:dono 21 looks & no one knows what this is? Leave it to Sophie to be unique. :shakehead

Guess I'll take the 'wait & see' approach. It's certainly not interfering with the eating of nuts...

One of mine had a scab like this on her cheek. It was there for a couple of weeks and then fell off. I never knew what caused it. I hope it is not pox. She is a beautiful girl.

:wave123 Hi LegoMom Watch her for POX!! That is what some of mine looked like. I had a few that only had a black scab, bump show up and that was all. Keep a close eye on the other squirrels outside to. Good luck Christal
:thinking PS Can you see her tongue? It it OK??

That's the last thing I wanted to hear, Mrs Skul, but the thought had crossed my mind. No one else has anything like it on their body. Just Sophie with that weird spot & one of my yard boys with (what I assume) are bot fly spots. I have seen Sophie's tongue & it is looks pink...absolutely normal.

Just seeing this thread.....Shanon, do you think it may be a burn of some sort? Like maybe she bit down on something electrical (don't forget, Sophie LIKES that kind of thing). I too, wonder if it is pox......I sure hope not.

anything is possible shanon, but I seriously doubt it's pox.
With only one lesion :shakehead
maybe a growth of sorts or a burn like Liz said:dono
If she is acting normal and you can monitor her...I would wait and watch...
:Love_Icon
she otherwise looks great/healthy!:)

It's just too weird & she might have bitten something electrical...maybe that's why I lost power for 6 hours the other day & the company had to replace 2 transformers! :rofl4

I'll just keep my eyes open. Thanks for looking, ladies. I'll let you know if there's any change.

There should be an exit burn too, shouldn't there?

Shanon, sorry I've been AWOL this weekend but I don't have anything brilliant to say about Sophie's mouth thing....it could be an electrical burn now that I think about it, but honestly I've never seen anything like that before... :dono

This could be totally off base here, but it looks EXACTLY like a tumor my cat had on the inside of his ear. It popped up very quickly, and I just kept waiting for it to fall off but it didn't. He had it for years, and it never got any bigger or bothered him in the least. When I had his teeth cleaned and they put him under, the vet removed it to do a biopsy. Benign and it hasn't come back.

Would a tumor pop up THAT fast?:dono I mean, Shanon JUST posted pics of Sophie the other day and her mouth looked fine.......:thinking :thinking :thinking

Yes, Boomer's came up practically over night, but it never got any bigger, and it didn't bother him in the least. I could rub it and he didn't care at all.

Well, whatever it was, it is no longer. I just saw Miss Sophia & she no longer has the bump on her mouth. :wahoo
May have been a scab of some sort...who knows. I'm just happy that her beautiful little face is back to normal.

Thanks for all of the thoughts & brainstorming. :thankyou

Well, I am still thinking a burn of some sort........For any new people, when Sophie was a baby and running around my living room with brother Spyro, she bit down on a lamp cord, got shocked, but was okay after a few minutes. Shanon, maybe she HAS moved on to power lines!!!!! In any case, you guys might want to purchase a generator......just in case!:rotfl :rotfl :rotfl
