Our squirrels are approx 29 days old today.
I know alot of sites recommend rodent block...which I can't find here. :(
We are releasing them when they are old enough...
Their top incisors just broke through yesterday....and Webster has been gumming my fingers at feeding time with his new chompers. When is a good time to provide them with something to nom on...and what is safe?
The rehabber here said shelled nuts...but they don't have cheek teeth yet...is this safe??
I want them to be healthy but not choke to death!

Just curious if you found the blocks at the store in Aberfoyle? I'm in Kitchener and have been looking for mazuri but I'm not having any luck..

Yuppers, they have the Mazuri blocks! :D
They have finally started to carry stuff we need! lol
We stopped shopping there for awhile because they never had the brands or foods we needed...so it was a very pleasant surprise!
They have soft wood chews shaped like oranges, the kids LOVE them!
Well, they destroy them...but they love doing it!
And Pet Valu sells the reindeer antlers for the squirrels!!
<sigh of relief!>

Try teething them on plain old Cheerios! i don't know that SQs teeth the way humans do. Those little teefers just pop in and they sort of nomp and chew on each other!!! I just ground up some rat block and mixed it with the powdered formula, added some applesauce to make it doughlike and rolled some balls up for them to mess with. You can also introduce them to a small pan of soaked block with formula added for them to lick up. Chop up some apple into small pieces as well. Of course they wade through it and get all sloppy but they also groom each other up too so they eat it off of each other :D
