I am so disgusted with the weather forecasters around here that I actually called the station to let them know of my extreme displeasure - and why accurate forecasts are so important. This past Wed. evening, the wx was supposed to be beautiful for the next several days (only a chance of some pop-up thunderstorms in the afternoon). So, I released my babies based on their forecast (Thursday AM). Guess what, today (Friday) has been nonstop rain ALL DAY. Im so worried about my babies. It was a semi-hard release on a property a few miles away from where I live. They were released in their nestbox, with food provided. I'm so worried I can't sleep!

I cannot believe that these people can screw up a forecast so badly & get paid for it. Can anybody share their wisdom with me? Do you think they'll be OK?

:wave123 I don't think rain will be a big problem, especially in summer when it's warm. Actually, squirrels are one of the best-adapted animals for dealing with the cold.... a little chilliness due to rain surely won't hurt them, especially with a dry nestbox handy. :grouphug

have you saw them since you released them? I've only released 1 girly squirrel so I'm no expert by any means..just thought I'd help you through by talking. I know the worried feelings you are going through. they have each other also which makes it better I am sure. mine was a solo release which made it very hard for (me). I'm sure they are fine and are exploring in the cool rain, maybe better than being hit with this terrible heat!

Thank you for listening to my worries :Love_Icon There were a total of 5 babies that were released. After hanging up the box, only 2 came out immediately and they seemed to be enjoying themselves exploring the nearby trees (that is the last I saw of them). The squirrel "mom" in me just worries that they may have ventured so far that they didn't return to the nestbox during the rain.

I'm no expert either, but my guess is they are fine, fine, fine, fine, fine. :grouphug They are released as a group so that's going to help them stay by the nestbox until they're ready to venture out on their own, I think. :)

Be well and safe and happy, rozdow's babies! :Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon

And roz, big hugs to you...no matter what the weather, I can bet you'd be worried...but the rain just adds an extra layer of worry. :shakehead :grouphug
