I got a nest of baby bunnies we ran over 2 days ago with the lawn mower and i put the nest back, they r still alive and well it seems. well a little bit ago i looked out and noticed the nest was torn apart all over the yard I found 5 of the 6 from the first time and noticed half of them looked weak and skinny while one or two looked days older and healthier. the rehab by us is full and not taking bunnies. the last few times i've called they have told me that they r nt taking bunnies cause they r hard to care for. kinda pissed me off and that they r only taking in bigger animals coons foxes ect..
I was wondering if i should leave them for night or bring them in and feed them myself and if I should bring them in then what do I feed them. I stay at home all day so feedings wouldnt be a problem if so. I'd had baby squirrels before many of yrs ago and i used either a puppy or kitten formula i cant remember but it said baby squirrels on it and I"ve raised baby kittens on kmr so i know how to stimulate them. The one is soo small and looks so weak i feel bad plus I had to touch them alot more this time so they dont cook in the sun out in the lawn. Im just gonna die if i find them dead out there in the hole

OK go get a pet carrier or box from you home. Put the nesting material in with the bunnies. Bring them inside right now. Before any animals can get them. I don't know what to feed them so just hang on. I am sure the y may need water but somebody will help. Just go get them.

If they look skinny, then they need help and should be taken in. Bunnies are usually pretty chunky when they are being cared for by their mom. Do the babies have their eyes open? If so, then they shouldn't be too hard to care for. Can you post pictures?

some r skinny and some r chunky. a few barely have their eyes open. Ill leave them there till I for sure know what to feed them. Ill post some pics later of them. they sure are cute. i looked online and it says about 10 days old

Leave them where? Outside? Please dont leave them outside, they are easy prey.

Take them in now, mom will not come back now that the nest has been torn apart. Although I don't like KMR (they changed the formula), it is the only thing you can get w/o ordering online. You will need to add heavy cream to it, as well. If you have an aquarium with a screen lid, they work well. Put a heating pad under half the tank, on low, so they can move away if they get heated. I would start them off with pedialyte first, to make sure they are not dehydrated (you can get pedialyte in the packets you mix, so you won't have waste, as once you open a bottle you have to toss it after 48 hrs). You can only do pedialyte for 24 hours, anyway. You will need a 1 cc needless syringe, as well. If you have a gram scale, it would be good if you could get a weight on them and keep a close eye on their weight. Oh, also, you should pick up benebac (for mammals) or Peter's Rabbit Probiotic, to mix in with the formula, as well. But for tonight, start them on Pedialyte!

when I went outside there was a rabbit in the front yard and it didnt run off. I wonder if its the mom. the tinest one was burrowed under grass and threw like it crawled and tunneled. it looks days younger though and i had to pull it out so it may have not ate the last feeding or two. Im gonna go get them though.
I only have older kitten KMR will that work? or should i try and get the newborn KMR? and what does heavy creme mean?
and I have pedilite here but its flavored and in a small juice cup size for my daughter. can i use that. I;m so sick I hate to run to the store. Im pregnant so my nausea is throught the roof and hard to even get out of bed

Use the pedalite you have that will be fine for 24 hours untill you can get what you need. ugh...wish I was closer to help you out.

Yes, you can use that pedialyte. Heavy cream you buy at the grocery store, where they sell milk, cream, etc. It was say heavy cream. The regular KMR, not the newborn. I would also suggest you order Fox Valley formula online, as it is much better. I had always used KMR but they changed the formulation and I had bad results with it this year (but it is better then nothing until you can get better stuff). You can look it up online at Fox Valley Nutrition. The formula for cottontails.

ok I left them out for the night since I saw the one rabbit before we went to my bfs moms and brought them in this morning. they seem active today and fat again. all eyes r open now. I feel bad I took them in now cause I do think the mom came back after I put the nest back together twice now. but I don't know for sure.

I think if you can put them in a safe area and watch out for predidtors it maybe a good idea. I would wait until somebody with more experence comes on. I don't know if mom will take them back with your smell on them. But I think it would be a good idea since you have seen mom and they are plump today. It seems like she fed them.

I put them back and put all grass back in the hole. they r right outside my front window so I look out there alot. Yesterday was the first time I saw a rabbit out there though. I've touched them twice before and she has come back. Ill just keep checking on them daily and if they look thin again bring them back in.

That sounds like a good idea. Hopefully mom will come get them.

They look great! I think the mom must be feeding them. Is there any way to rebuild their nest for them? Maybe they are already to the exploring age, but they look a little young for that. I would think their nest would be a better spot for them, more protected and mom knows where they are then.

A little trick to know if mom has been there, place two small twigs, crisscross by the entrance (not blocking it, but sort of right by it) and check tomorrow to see if it has been disturbed. If the nest is intact, mom may still come back. But if they look thinner tomorrow and there is no evidence she has been there, you may want to pull them in. They do look really good!

UPDATE- I didn't check them yesterday cause I wasn't feeling that good but I did see who i think is the momma. Today I was in the backyard and walked to the front with my daughter and I saw one. I picked it up and put it back in the next since it was far away from it. There was only 3 in the next. so 4 out of 5. then about an hour or so later (2 mins ago for me lol) I looked out and saw the tiny out out front so I went and got it and put it in the nest too so all 5 are alive and well. :) Guessing they are exploring a lot more now and leaving the nest. I was hoping none would get in the back cause i have 4 dogs and the one likes to kill things and im sure the other big dog would too.
and OMG they have gotten so big. their ears r standing good now too :) I may have to go snap a pic of them :)

:wahooThey sound like happy healthy little tykes. Exploring is good. They will be very active and alert within the next week and then you probably will only catch glimpses of some of them as they spread out and find a nice place to live. Hopefully none choose the dogs yard!

they are already leaving me :( they just opened their eyes last week.
I checked on them earlier and 4 in the nest then my daughter ran over to them when her dad dropped her off. all 5 were in there again. I cant believe how they leave and know their way back already. CRAZYNESS
