Hi Maggi! Your little Cico stole my heart when you first posted about him. I hope he is okay soon.
My Skweeks loves Henry's blocks but I have made him homemade ones as treats that have all the vitamins that are in the Henry's but are a little sweeter. I used Keetz1205's sugar cookie recipe that she makes for her little Chicklet. I am sure she won't mind my sharing it. You can order the vitamins from 4Skwerlz where you got the Henry's. I added a spoonful of Nutella and chopped the nuts really fine so Skweeks can't try to pick them out.
There is also a thread with a recipe for Boo's yummy nut balls. They seem to be a huge hit but I have not tried they yet.
1 package of vitamin mix (from 4Skwerlz) This is the bag that's used to make the one month supply of HHBs)
1-1/3 cups Wheat flour (may need a little more)
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup butter, softened (I've tried different oils - doesn't work. Too wet)
1/4 to 1/3 cup of molasses
1 egg white
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup chopped nuts (I use almonds, pecans, walnuts all mixed together)
The molasses may make the dough a little wet so you may need a little more flour than the 1 1/3 cups. Just add enough so that the dough is firm enough to roll into balls and won't stick to your hands too much. I roll them into 108 little balls (about an inch in size) but I imagine you could probably just press it into a cookie sheet and then cut them when they're done. Bake at 225 for about 1/2 hour. They'll be hard when cooled. chicklet loves them!!! Good luck. By the way - the 108 cookies lasts about a month. (3-4 per day)
Good luck! Denise and Skweeks

i advise no sunflower seeds...they are too high in phosphorus and works against the calcium....also makes sqs nervous /jittery IMO.
can you get human calcium tablets? without vitamin D?
can you get cod liver oil?
mushrooms?
Hi,
Thank you so much for replyI got all the ingredients just dont have mollases in Croatia.Anyway I will try without to make some blocks for Cico.
And yes,I give him mushrooms, sometimes he eats the,he is very picky squirrel.
In here the squirrels live on pine threes and eat cones and pine seeds,we dont have any other wood in my hometown.
And yes,I can get shark liver oil, what do do with it.(i dunno for cod)
Thanks a million!!!!!

Here's the Banana Milk Shake
I make this in a baby food jar and start with formula [Fox Valley, Esbilac or goats Milk]
1 to 1 1/2 inch slice of Banana
3 tablespoons formula
3 tablespoons Dannon All Natural Vanilla Yogurt
2 to 4 drops of liquid Vit. E oil {NOT COSMETIC GRADE}
5 or 6 drops of liquid cod liver oil (not the capsules)
500 - 600 mg calcium
100 mg. of Vit. C
Pour the warmed yogurt and milk into the mashed banana and vitamin mixture and mix it all up well with a fork.
Warm and syringe feed.
Discard after 3 days.
This is a good short term treatment to boost calcium levels.
:Love_Icon This is the recipe I used to treat Rocky when he was having seizures, a few years ago. His Cal level was so low it did not register on a blood value. His vet thought the test was a reject and called it inconclusive...but I knew something was wrong, I was determined to stop the seizure activity and this is what turned his life around. At one point he had lost his independant leg movement and could only hop...and just barely at best. He is doing great now with a better diet and better eating habits.
He is now jumping again and has been seizure free for a few years!:thumbsup
I am sory you are having problems and hope that this helps:grouphug
The best possible choice are the HHBs, but if Cico will not eat them, you may need to take away all other foods to break the bad habits.
In the mean while try this recipe!

For a while, this recipe was the only way I could get the extra calcium into Garth - he is a super, picky eater. I would make up a batch then add the extra calcium at feeding times - would spread the dosages to 3 a day for the total extra calcium. I warmed it and fed through syringe like when he was a baby.(PS, I used goats milk at the time cause I did not have the right kind of formula. Whenever I make it now I will use goats milk cause he likes it that way)
