won't stop self nursing!!

I've tried EVERYTHING to help stop Marvin from self-nursing. I feed him often approx 9-12cc's each feeding every 4 hrs. In between we've been giving him fruit(strawberries) and Boo's Nummy Nutballs (which he LOVES!) We keep putting on Neosporin, and yuck spray(the bitter apple had alcohol in it and I didn't want to have it burn since he's been sucking on it all the time. I think it's more of a comfort thing. If he's sleeping he usually curls up in a ball and is sleeping with it - like when a baby sleeps with their thumb in their mouth. He gets out of everything we try to use to cover him up with. Any suggestions? His little willy is really stretched out.:thinking

Sounds likre you've done most of the suggested remedies, with no positive results......
The rehabbers and experienced members will offer more advice....

I know one time someone on this board suggested a baby sock...cut holes for his legs and put it on him..keeping his head out of course.

I think the sock thing would work if you can get Marvin to wear it. At this point it couldn't hurt to try.

We also tried the sock thing -didn't work...that boy can get out of anything!!! We should have named him Houdini!:rotfl The first ever squirrel magician!:D We tried to make a "diaper" out of gauze - taped it on and everything ....he still manage to get out of it?:dono

last resort...and it hurts my heart...but if nothing helps, last resort, an e collar will stop self nursers...
please try feeding less more often...this has been the case with every single SNer that I have ever had...
the sock never worked for me either, but others have mentioned it before...:dono

I had the same problem with skillet tried everything but he got out of all of them The product Thumb worked for skillet you have to apply it often tho :osnap

:wave123 Hi Marvin's Mom I just thought I would ask, This question! :) Have you though about giving him a Binky!!:D If you take a nipple off of one of those Just Born Nursing Bottles. I know they are short and fat enough at the end he can't swallow it. :D One more thing Have you taken VET WRAP and wrap 11/2 times around him. Make sure it is not to tight. Thanks guys! I:) think I will try the Vetwrap first if need be -actually we tried the feeding him more often and that seems to be working and then the E-collar last resort...Like I said before I think it's more of a comfort thing. Need to find him a little friend:D

:wave123 I had that problem with Darth Vaders brother Chewbacca and I took a little pet nurser nipple without a hole and he sucked on it even when he was in his bed,it helped allot and he quit sucking on himself and everyone else when he was with them.It worked like a pacifier:jump :wahoo :wahoo :.

I attached it to the bottle cap ring that the nipple snapped into and I never had a problem .If you see he's chewing on it or it shows signs of wear,you just replace it,just like with a human baby's nuckie.

:crazy Somehow I knew you were going to ask that,but, no, My brother is a Star Wars Nut,so my sister in law came up with the idea of naming them after the characters and since there was only one girl in the litter I named them after my favorites.Princess Leah ,she was bossy ,Darth Vader, cause he was darker in coloring,Yoda,he was little and so cute.and then Chewbacca was the loudest.But I guess Sucker would have been a good one.:rofl4
