I was playing with my flyers tonight and noticed that one of them was not using his back leg. It looks broken to me. It just dangles around when he runs. I want to take him to the vet but however I leave for IL for 5 days tommorrow. Will he be ok till I get back or will I have to post my trip for another time. WHat do I do?
What does a squirrel do in the wild with a broken leg?

What does a squirrel do in the wild with a broken leg?Cindy, I'm not sure how you can even ask such a question. TAKE CARE OF THE SQUIRREL.

Do you have any favors you can call in on a friend? The squirrels health should come before anything imo...see if a friend or family member can take him to the vet if you cant be there yourself.

Cindy G, you take care of your squirrel, Indiana will be there forever. And to answer your question as to what would happen in the wild, he would be someones dinner.

Good answer MS.Yes Cidy.If he had a broken leg in the wild, he will be an easy catch to the predators. And if he is not treated soon the break will get worse because he is using that leg.He needs you in this moment.

We received from the vet a couple of days ago, a squirrel with a broken hind leg that the vet did surgery on and now has a pin in his leg. The vet said that if he had gone a few more days without help, he would have had to euthonize him due to the leg not being able to heal correctly or infection setting in. So please take care of your squirrel first.

Cindy~I know this has been stated before but you gotta get priorities in order here. THe squirrel is helpless and needs your help~find him a rehabber NOW or get him to a vet experienced in wild animals. If this crunches your travel time so be it~or give up the idea of helping wild critters. You gotta put them first or not take care of them at all. I know it may sound harsh and mean but you have choices in your life and travel plans~this lil darling has none unless you give him some choices. Your call~

TAKE CARE OF YOUR SQUIRREL!!! When you became a HOF you took on the responsibility of a LIFE. If your trip is that important, get rid of all your flyers. There are lots of flyer people in Florida that would be glad to take them. If you had a broken leg, would you want to be left for 5 days to get it taken care of? Abandoned, scared and in constant pain?

If you can't find anybody to take your flyers, let me know. I'm sure I can get in touch with someone in FL on the NFSA board - they have a lot of members in Florida.

get your squirrel help! asap!! if you leave him that way for five days chances are infection will set in. it would then either require euthanization or amputation of the limb to save his life.
unless there is a life and death situation awaiting you then you need to stay and take care of your squirrels.

Just got online -- ditto everything said above!!! You must take care of that squirrel, not leave it injured and in pain for over five days! With the "ownership" of another creature comes responsibility. Responsibility comes before vacation. 'Nuff said.

Oh I am so sorry to make you all think that Frodo would be alone. He had my boyfriend watching him and the others. He did go to the vet and it cost $200 and they wanted to put a pin in his leg for another $300. However we did not have the $300 at the time. While I was away I went to the Casino and played the 5 cents slots with $20 and won $1054 so MR FRODO WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF. I am not a BAD HOF OWNER! Sometimes $$$$$$MONEY will hold me back on things but I always take care of my Pets, even before ME. I split my head opened and did not go to the Doctor. If one of my animals are HURT I will do what ever it takes even if it is for a few days.

Mr. Fordo is doing well. He is in his own little cage and gets extra lovens right now. I was gone and thats why no one has heard from me till now.

Thanks for everyones concern you all are the best and Frodo really appreciates all the love you send out.
Thank you.

Everyone is a big fan of that O. Henry story where they both sacrifice and end up with something they can't use anymore, thus proving that the beatles were right and 'love is all you need'... but it sure is nice when you hear about forces combining in the opposite manner to give a person just exactly what they need to have at a given time. Morals are great.. but sometimes you do just really need some $$$.
