Hello! I just found your website. I am a missionary in Africa. We have a lot of squirrels where I am and unfortunately a lot of cats that like to attack them. We rescued a very small baby from one of the cats about 3 days ago. We don't live in a big city so we don't have a lot available to us. There is a very small vet but not open very often. We have been feeding the squirrel a little baby formula and a rehydrate solution. I think the baby is only about 4-5 weeks old. He has hair, eyes are open, and bottom teeth. His breathing seems very labored. Since we have very little experience with this I think he was not fed properly and may have pneumonia. He has been sleeping a lot but he did climb around his cage last night. I have him in plastic box on top of a hot water bottle and different types of cloth to keep warm with. I have only been able to get him to eat a little but I have been able to get him to go to the restroom. Today I noticed blood in his urine. I am not sure what to do for the little guy (Simon as we call him). We don't seem to have much success with trying to save squirrels. We try but we are very limited with what we have. Simon is our 3rd rescue attempt...Alivn and Theodore are in Heaven. :( Any advice for now and in the futue would help. We could not find the mom to try to reunite them. Thanks! Glad you have this website!

Do you have antibiotics of any kind? They seem to be needed often in cat bite cases, If he is wild he might have multiple problems. I'm sure some rehabbers will be on here soon.

Thank you! I am trying to think of somewhere that might have some medicines available. Fortunately it doesn't look like there were any injuries on the outside but I don't know about any internal injuries.

Without anti biotics for either the pnuemonia or the cat bites...the best you can do is keep them warm and fed if they will eat...
Warm compresses on the booboos and cleaning them out well may help...
and I am sure trapping and relocating the cats is outta the question...
I can give you a list of sq friendly ABs that you can ask your local vet about having or ordering for the future...
Baytril *enrofloxacin
Keflex *cephalexin
Bactrim, Sulfatrim, SMZ_TMP *trimethoprim/sulpha
Albon *sulfadimethoxine

and last resorts
Augmentin *clavamox
Amoxicillin
Doxycycline

keep them hydrated, warm and canned goats milk can be used for formula...
If you have a antibiotic first aide cream or TRiple Anti B suave...apply that to the wounds...:grouphug

others may be able to help more...good luck:grouphug
