Hair loss and bites on leg

I was wondering if you could tell me how to post my own reply?
I have a lil boy named shakespear who is having hair loss on his right leg. he was injured a while back, so we brought to the vet and he was given an antibiotic.he has been looking perfectly healthy up until we noticed the hair loss.after a great struggle to pin him down i finally managed to get a good look at it and there are some bite marks and scratches on the inner thigh where most of the baldness is located.I am worried about what might be going on, he has been acting like a normal A.K.A. crazy squirrel but im thinking about visiting the vet again but i feel that you are all the real experts when it comes to caring for these critters so i figured i should consult with all of you before I make a wrong move. please if you have any ideas even if they sound crazy I would love to hear about them

P.S. i am 13 and i have been with lil shakespear since he was a pink thing, my mom has helped me greatly on how to properly raise these critters but i feel that she may not know what to do on this problem.Im very worried:(

Cassy, since you haven't enabled your private messaging or email on The Squirrel Board I'll answer your first question here.

First, what you really needed to do in your case, is to post a new thread (that means to start your own subject as opposed to responding to someone elses questions or comments).

This is how to post a new thread:

1. Go to the main page that lists all Forums(they're the main headings or subjects) located in the left hand column.

2. Click on the appropriate Forum on the left side (NOT on the Last Post which is on the right side).

3. Click on New Thread (in the upper left corner).

4. Give your new thread a title (in the small box) so others can see at a quick glance what the subject is that you want to discuss, etc.

5. Go to the bigger box below it and enter your message.

6. When finished typing, simply hit the Submit New Thread button below. That should do it!

I moved her thread from another and left a redirecting link and an explanation so she wouldn't get too lost. I also mentioned, Cassy, that if you have a vet that will see your squirrel, it wouldn't hurt to contact them.

The bite marks and scratches, you assume they are from him? or is he around other critters? If from himself, sure does sound like something is irritating him.

I've seen a lot of red mite mange in Central New York this fall. In grays, it looks like bald spots, generally on inside of thighs, and on belly, sometimes their tails will look thin also. In the bald areas I see little red dots on the skin. I've seen it in wilds at my feeder ocassionally over the years. It seems to be self limiting and passes as the weather gets colder.
It is treatable on squirrels that are in your possession, however, a trip to the vet or a rehabber is necessary. You can use Ivermectin, which is over the counter and costs close to $50.00 here for the smallest bottle. It may be cheaper to go to the vet. If you decide to use Ivermectin, let us know and someone will help you with the correct dose.
