Does anyone know if Activia by Dannon is ok to feed squirrels?

The yoplait yogart Yoplus blueberry isn't supplied by my store anymore..Tiffy only likes blueberry..So I've had to buy the regular size blueberry yoplait yogart...problem....I'm waisting more than using..The Yoplus is 4oz containers whereas the regular size yogart is 6oz...

I'd like to switch her to the Activia if it is ok for Tiffy...I wish she liked other flavors, but she's like her mama....I am a blueberry nut...:D

NO! Not Activia - it has stuff to make ya poop in it!

Look for Yoplait "Yobaby" yogurt. It comes in teeny baby sized containers, in a 6 pack - I have seen 3 banana/3 vanilla and a blueberry and rasberry combo. It is whole milk yogurt, and the tiny containers mean you can actually use more of them before you have to toss them.

Probiotics: The easiest source is Bene-bac, which is made for animals, and is available in both a gel (kinda looks like toothpaste) and a powder. Available in pet stores. You want to give it if they are under stress, and especially if receiving antibiotics. Giving them a little once a week if you wanted would be just fine, but a healthy animal won't need it every day.

Yobaby? I hate the combo packs, although I've never tried raspberry for Tiffy..maybe she'll like it too...I'll have to try...

I do have pobias here in the frig....but as stated above, the yogart is part of her daily meals....

CritterMom ... that's exactly what I use. It comes in a small size and they are organic whole milk. My Boo loves them ... sometimes right off the spoon! LOL

I eat organic and therefore so do my animals.

The kind of yogurt you shouldn't buy is the kind with artificial sweeteners (usually called, "light" or "no sugar added").

The probiotics shouldn't be a problem (they're supposed to "regulate" the digestive system by encouraging the normal gut flora) but let us know how they affect Tiffy.:D

I don't THINK it would be a problem, but I don't know. You should ask Critter Mom what her experience is with Activia. If it causes diarrhea that would be bad.

PT, I always use straight Acidophilus. It has worked the best for us on EVERYONE. I never use yogurt especially if they have bathroom issues. I don't like ben-e-bac either although it might be the easiest ready to administer.
You can buy the powder in the refrigerated section of a health store or the capsules with the powder inside. You can also by flavored wafers but the count should be at least 1 BILLION for it work right.

I mean sometimes we humans have this in the house... but might not have yogurt readily available, so it makes a perfect Solution!!! It's true. Why take in all the sugar and dairy when all you want is the cultures? I bought the acidophilus capsules (much cheaper than scarfing all that expensive yogurt) and it cured my gastric reflux.:thumbsup

I usually recommend benebac because it is easy to find. My pharmacist has the refrigerated Lactobacillus - it looks like yeast - that I have used to good effect before, too.

It would be great to give her just that, but my dilema is that yogart is part of Tiffy's food source..Remember, her teeth aren't strong enough to bite into anything of a solid nature..If I break the skin on some fruits, she can sort of suck out the soft meat..but I am thing of additional foods I think she would be able to eat with little to no problem...

I bought a few jars of baby food chicken, well with one smell...she ran the other way, up the bed and under the covers :rotfl It was so funny to watch..It reminds me of when I was young and found peas on my plate..only, I wasn't allowed to run away :sanp3 I will continue to offer it to her a few more times and see what happens..I offered her real chicken the other day, I even minced it for her and she turned her nose up at it, but she does like to play around with chicken bones...go figure..:thinking

I did buy the activia to try..I read the ingrediants and they seem to be ok...I'll post them here in the order on the packake......cultured grade A reduced fat milk, blueberry puree, fructose, sugar, water, contains less than 1% of whey protein concentrate, corn starch, kosher gelatin, carmine for color, natural flavor, malicacid, sodium citrate.......also contains the active cultures L.bulgaricus, S.Thermophilus and Bifidobacterium...

SASG and TP, my sqs love yogurt...my flyers get it everynight...
it is in all my formulas, I always use Dannon or Stoneyfield Vanilla...
they are addicted and it IS good for them...
it also helps when ABs are being used, for gut flora.
it also helps hide medicine to sqs that will not cooperate..
and we all know that yogurt is healthy!:Love_Icon

Fred was using acidophilus daily until he discovered he was lactose intolerent...he now drinks Lactaid...and I agree it works well, but yogurt has more than just bacteria! It is yummy too!:thumbsup

Thanks Jackie..I'll try that..As much as Tiffy hates getting her teeth trimmed, she LOVES the results..She groomed the cuticles on my nails then my foot for the longest time last night..

She loves the Activia alot better than the regular yogart..I do too, it's not as strong in taste as regular yoplait yogart..Activia is made by Dannan..

I just noticed this thread, and have been giving Hammy, my flyer, small bits of Activia every few days for about a week (maybe two? I have no concept of time apparently). He seems fine, but occasionally has some loose poops...never diarrhea. I just wanted to post my experience with it. I may switch to YoBaby anyway because I am so paranoid about giving him the wrong foods.

TP, go to PetSmart and look in the dog treats. Get 'Prime Bites Freeze Dried Chicken'. They are 100% chicken breast and my flyers love them. They will choose them over pecans! They are pretty soft and she might be able to eat them 'as is', or you can smush them up and mix with other things.

Tiffany's been on the Activia for I think since the 5th of this month and she is doing really good...No loose poops at all...I did look for the Yoplait Yobaby first though, but my store doesn't carry it...I'll check another store next time I'm out...
