Ok, I'm sure lots of you have Jungle Gyms for your sqs.... can you post some, I need ideas, I'm going down to the shop tomorrow with my dh to make one but no idea where to start...

They pretty much beat the poop out of their tree/shrub so now they need a change! :thumbsup

My squirrel, Sandy, and my wilds very highly recommend you get a wheelchair to use as a squirrel jungle gym! Is that too taste specific? :rotfl They really do think they are a blast! :D

Sandy also uses one of those cheap cat play units you can pick up anywhere -- you put them together, they are made with plastic rods and mesh -- I think hers was less than $20.

Well the joke's on you! We have 3 wheelchairs in the house! My DH is paraplegic but he needs all his chairs so that won't do! :jump

can you get a pic of the kitty thing you're talking about! :tilt

by the way, your sqs have never tried a taste of your tires yet? :thinking
I think mine would have one popped in under 5 minutes :D

Here's Henry's jungle gym. Bad pic; cell phone camera. I made it out of large diameter PVC plumbing pipe. I didn't even glue the pieces together; just fitted them together. There's a special PVC bracket I used for the plywood bases. you screw it into the plywood and the PVC pipe fits right into it. That's his nestbox on the plywood platform on the upper right.

The contraption in the center isn't part of the gym; it's an old end table with a piece of plywood on top, then his cage on top of that. The plywood catches SOME of his mess.:D

And while I was at it, here's a pic of the Monster:

:D I have three wheelchairs, too. I actually use my manual chair when I let Sandy out, and transfer OUT of the chair so she can use it! :rotfl (Can you tell whose the boss in my house??? :owned :rofl4 )

None of my chairs have air in the tires anymore. They were to darn high maintainence, and roll awfully if they weren't exactly the right air pressure. I switched to the solid inserts. My tires are always the right pressure now, and a few squirrel chomps don't make a difference! :thumbsup

Here are a few links to the type of play area I use. They aren't exactly the same as the one Sandy has, but very similar. (I hope it's okay to link to Walmart and Target to show this -- I don't have stock in either company! :) )

OK, So I was leaving for the store with my plans all in my head and DH says 'what are you gonna use' and I told him and he says no no, I have a couple of 4x4 fence posts downstairs and we could use them...SOOOOOOOOO we're starting on it today and we'll see what comes out of the cave later on! :tilt

here's a weird idea my DH had...
Did anyone ever make a really big running wheel for sqs? Like 24" wide... :D

This is a perfect time of the year to make a "tree jungle gym". I use Christmas tree holders (that should be available now) and put in real trees when I am rehabbing squirrels. You could even use a couple Christmas type trees in water and they would last a long time:D But a more permanent kind would be a good size branch or same dead tree. I have three tree holders so can have 3 trees around the room:)

(I think Lynn's Sammy had a wheel but I don't think he used it much. He had a nice gym something like Henery's too.)

Lucky Henry, great gym:thumbsup

OK, here's a quote:

I made the jungle gym out of 2x2 untreated pine & dowl (sp?) rods from home depot... I think overall is cost me about 25$?

We just made the frame out of the 2x2's and drilled holes through the frame and put the dowl (sp?) rods through those holes, keep in mind you'll have to use the same size drill bit for the size dowl rods you use... when we screwed it together, we "sank" the screws so he couldn't get his hands/mouth on them. For some of the rods we stuck them through both sides leaving a "perch" on either end.

I went to Petco/Petsmart and bought the cotton ropes that have untreated wood pieces on them (parrot section)... we used them for my sugargliders so I figured they would be safe to use for Ike. .

There is also a 1x4 at the top for his platform so he could just hangout and relax. Overall the jungle gym is 3' wide 2'deep & 3 1/2' tall.

We still aren't finished with it though. He shoots around that thing like Speedy Gonzales!

well we're almost done, looks like cr*p :jump but I'm sure they'll have a ball playing with it.
It's nothing like I was thinking, it was mostly hit and miss, add this here, put that there, and I still I have to go out and buy rope as soon as my daughter arrives so as soon as it's finished I will post pics! :thumbsup
