I have a eastern grey squirrel that is 4 months old, this morning i got up and went to the habitat that i built for her that is 7 feet tall, 4 feet wide, and 3 feet deep. when i proceeded to open the door, she was screaming and very lethargic, she kept burying her head. whats wrong?

She could have had a fall I'm thinking...can you post a picture??? If not email it to me...

Get her on heat and in a dark quiet place. Heat should be half on and half off of the container that you have her in...

You need to take her out and examine her --
Did she fall? Does she appear bruised or do any limbs look broken or 'not right'?
Is she frightened? Did something happen around her cage that scared her? A dog barking, a loud airplane, a leaf blower......?
What is her diet like? She is young to be showing symptoms of MBD but it's possible if her diet has been lacking.....

Her habitat is indoors, her feces look solid as normal, i fed her enfamil, but now i have been giving her a small portion of nuts, pet rat rood, and on an occasion fruits and vegetables.

Because of the Enfamil she may be lacking in the right nutrition for a squirrel.....first let's get some calcium into her. This is from our Emergency Treatment for MBD:
Get calcium into the squirrel IMMEDIATELY, not later, not tomorrow, NOW. Delaying treatment can cause death or permanent paralysis.
You will need:
--Tums or calcium pills (any kind)
--a syringe, eyedropper, or spoon
Crush one Tums or calcium pill and add a little water or fruit juice. Use the syringe, eyedropper, or spoon to force-feed the mixture, a little at a time, until it is all gone. Feed a total of 600-800 mg of calcium, and spread it out through the day and night to keep his blood calcium levels as steady as possible.
If the squirrel is having seizures, weakness, or paralysis, the symptoms will usually improve within a few hours, but this does not mean the squirrel is cured. It will take many months to rebuild the calcium in the bones.

Do you have a vet that would look at her? I think too that her diet was all wrong...You were feeding baby formula right? She should have been on puppy replacer. Can you get some tums into her or calcium...I do believe that with her screaming, she is in pain. Is she up and walking around, using her legs? Her tail is hanging?
Yes pictures would be the best...and if you can't post them email them to me!!

Nancy is right -- get the Tums, or a calcium pill if you have one, into her immediately. Then we take it from there......

First let me start by saying that I am not a rehaber but I have been doing some major cramming on squirrel info for a while now and if her tail is flat and limp, she's screaming out in pain and she seems scared.....it sounds like she could have had a fall, gotten hurt or as with my most recent findings more often than not they suffer from MBD due to the lack of calcium in their daily diet. And it seems like i just read something about their tail being flat and lifeless that has something to do with both and injury or MBD. I can tell you this...I have been dealing with the MBD for the last 3 days with my boy and since following these wonderfull rehabers advice he is doing much, much better. Do what they say. Get calcium to it NOW! Good luck please keep us posted!

I also noticed that after giving the calcium, I gave him some esbilac...as much as he would take. (at a 1:1.5 ratio) it made a big difference in his strength. you might try that. Also, heat helps with the pain.

:goodpost you have been given good advise...
please do the treatment asap
Calcium treatment above cannot hurt your sq...I would use three tablespoons of water to mix with 600-800mg calcium pill...
and stir often, it is not really going to dissolve well. It mostly floats.
Tums will work also...
have you thoroughly inspected sq?
can sq use back legs?
are poops normal color also?
have you noticed any seizure type response?
loud noise, bright light, sudden movement can scare a sq with low calcium, so dark and quiet with heat.
sqs have a hard time regulating body temp associated with Metabolic Bone Disease.
