There is one kind of chestnut that is toxic to humans, but not to squirrels. I think all chestnuts are ok for them to eat, and have lots of good vitamins in them too. :thumbsup

there is a chinese chestnut tree in my backyard that a pair of squirrels live in, they eat em all day,
they actually live in the pine trees right next to it, and there are maybe 4 squirrels in total amongst those trees, but yea they chow down
im pretty positive too that the american chestnut tree has died out:osnap
