This is not a "for sure," but the squirrels on the campus where I teach nibble on dogwoods quite a bit.

Make sure you guys are talking about the same species of Dogwood, because there are many species out there and they are not all the same.

I have 2 dogwood trees, one white leaves and one pink leaves in front of the house, mommy girl squirrel has been eating the berries for off of both trees for 3 weeks now with no ill effects that I've seen.

I found some info on the web saying that the berries of bushy Dogwoods are toxic. I don't think color distinguishes the species, but is yours a tree or a bush?

If you can, you should look up "dogwood" on Wikipedia to see how many different kinds there are. I think, and this is just my opinion, if you see the wild squirrels eating the berries on your tree, it is OK. If just birds are eating them, then it might not be, because birds have different reactions to things than squirrels. Your tree could be one that is more toxic than other dogwoods. I only say this, not to be an argumentative pain in the neck, but because there are so many different kinds of dogwoods. In other words, a dogwood is not a dogwood is not always a dogwood.
Different species have different reactions to foods. I remember my mother explaining to me that we could not eat acorns, but squirrel could, because their digestive processes were different from ours. I guess, in this way, birds could eat the berries and not be harmed, but they could be mildly toxic to other species. But if the wild squirrels are eating them, then they should be safe. The berries on my dogwood in the front of my house, are not being eaten by the squirrels, who are normally little piggies about anything else.
