View Full Version : New Baby Can't Pee
We received a 5-6 week old male squirrel on Monday that we have been having problems getting him to urinate. We have tried stimulating him with warm water and cotton balls, submerging his lower half in warm water, and nothing seems to work. He has urinated on his own three times but it takes a lot of effort for him, he seems to be straining. He peed on his own yesterday but nothing today, his bladder was quite large he and was straining. He was anesthetized today and a catheter was placed and about 10ml of clear urine was extracted. The catheter advanced fairly easily and the urine flowed quite rapidly while the cath was in. We have sent the urine to a lab for analysis and should have results tomorrow. It has been nine hours since the cath was placed and removed and yet again he can not pee and stimulating him has been unsuccessful. Any suggestions would be much appreciated

It sounds like you're doing all you can do, but I'd start the baby on Sulfatrim (good for urinary tract infections) ASAP. Also, you must keep trying to express the bladder by massaging and stimulating.
Thank You! can you recomend a dose?

Dose is .05 cc per 100 grams. Need to weigh your baby.
